Fajitas - they make me happy! - This isn't a picture of my fajitas - mine are far prettier!

Yay!! It's Friday, and that means it's chicken fajitas night in the angelicEmu household. So how many of you are going to have a special weekend foody-treat tonight, and what will it be? As it's sunny and warm will you be having a barbecue, or just eating in the garden, or will you be TV-dining? Here's to weekend food in all its forms!

It's late Saturday night here in Australia. We took the kids to a local playground and had a picnic of fish and chips for dinner. The kids had a great time! Tomorrow night we're having Tacos. YUM!

I'd love to send you some warm weather but it's pretty cold here today too! That's what I get for bragging about it LOL No, didn't have mushy peas. Is that a common thing to have with fish and chips in the UK? The fish and chip shops here don't sell them. I think about the only take out places you can get mushy peas are at some specialty pie stores and they serve the mushy peas on top of the meat pies. Oh and some of our chicken takeaway shops sell peas with their food but not mushy ones.

Oops, also meant to add that the tacos fell apart on us too so in the end we broke the shells up and served them like nachos instead LOL

That sounds like a lovely evening! A picnic at the park, and fish & chips no less!! Did you have mushy peas too :-)? Tacos are delicious, but both times I've tried them, the shells were so crispy, they broke into pieces and the filling fell out. So very messy, and very delicious (the best foods often are, in my experience). All the best to you and your family in sunny Oz - it's quite cloudy here in Manchester (UK) today, so could you send us some of your lovely weather please?

It's pouring here, and looks the be doing it the entire weekend! Ick!!! This type of weather really makes me want comfort food. My boyfriend have been doing Calzone friday. I make calzones with dough bought at the supermarket, this makes it so much easier. As for the middle/filling...that depends on many things. I find calzones are a great way to use up leftovers. This friday's calzone is hot sausage with green peppers. I cooked the peppers with tomato sauce, then cooked the sausage and mixed the two togeher. I then roll the filling up in the dough, and bake. What's great about this is you can make them ahead of time, freeze and just pop in the oven on friday night. Saves me from having to do too much cooking when I get home from work.

I'm sorry to hear about the dismal weather there - it ended up being cold and windy here, so it was an indoor eat-fest after all! Calzone friday sounds yummy, and reading about that filling makes my mouth water!! That's a very organised approach you have there, and I hope you both enjoyed your meal :-)

I am a vegetarian but i like fazitas a lot. i can make then at home also . Its not compulsory that on fridays we go out for dinner or for any special foody treat. i generally cooks at home and i am comfortable in cooking a variety of dishes. i enjoy cooking. i make fazitas at home and i made it last sunday in the breakfast time . everybody loved and enjoyed eating it. If i am in a hurry or there are too many people , i buy tortillas from outside and if there are only four or five pieces to make i make on my own. I make it with bell peppers, minced garlic, onion, ground cumin, chopped fresh cilantro, and cheese. its yummy. some time i make it with boiled kidney beans too. they also taste very good.

MMmmmmm! That sounds like a yummy vegetarian version of fajitas! Kidney beans are always good - tasty and hearty too. Thanks for the response - I don't think I've ever heard of fajitas for breakfast, but I bet it's a great filling way to start the day, and would certainly wake a person up!

It is delicious :-) Luckily, in the UK we have some Mexican restaurants, and most supermarkets sell the ingredients and packets of ready-mixed spice for making Mexican food. If you can't buy ready-made packets of the right spices ready-mixed, there's a website which has some recipes from scratch: http://www.mexican.recipes-to-go.com Hope that helps! All the best :-)

I just had McD food, lovely :-D But umm I could really go for some fajitas, that's really great food. Do you have them every friday?

Yes, we used to have them once a week but vary the day, which got confusing. So now it's every friday, hence the name! McDonalds is nice every now and again - but if they sold that "special sauce" in the Supermarkets, I would hardly ever go, as the only reason I ever go to McD's is to get a fix of that sauce for me & my partner. All the best!

I love veggie fajitas. I made black bean burgers and I'm also making roasted potato wedges. I wish it was warmer here...it's not quite nice enough to eat outside.

That sounds yummy!! I love veggie food - although I am a meat eater too I tend to try and cook one vegetarian meal per week, as not only is it healthier, it's delicious and different! It turned out to be rather less warm and sunny yesterday evening than it was when I wrote the posting (I got rather carried away as sunny spells are few and far between in the North of England!!), so it was a TV fajitas friday here, in front of NCIS (not too bad a show, but we were waiting for Law & Order Criminal Intent to come on afterwards - that's one of our faves). All the best, and happy eating to you :-)

That sounds good! Friday for us is Tuna Friday. If only because Subway has their Tuna sandwiches today on special for $2.99 and they have great tuna sandwiches. We usually do that every weekend. It started as a Lent thing for my wife, but I love Tuna so much it just kinda stuck with the two of us. Tomorrow, we're going to Hooters! I love their wings; it one of my old high-school buddies birthdays, so his wife is taking him to Hooters and we're going along. It's going to be awesome.

That sounds yummy too! I think that having a weekend foody treat is always a good tradition to get into, whether you cook it yourself, order take-away or go to a restaurant. All the best, and have a good weekend!

I'm in Manchester, so might I ask 'what is sunny?'. I'm inspired, so I'm going to have chicken fajitas, too, but indoors.

Well, as I'm sure you know, in Manchester the definition of "sunny" is any break in the clouds/rain which allows enough sunlight to permeate to be able to turn off the electric lights, from 2 minutes up! Hope you enjoyed your fajitas last night, and I'm glad my posting inspired you! Maybe we could start a movement for "fajitas friday" to become an established tradition throughout the world, which will lead to, if not world peace, then at least a jolly good nosh-up for everyone! All the best to you, and I hope you're not suffering today from all those spices:-)

If we can afford it after we pay the bills tonight we are going out to eat. It will be the first time eating out in a month. We are going to have fish. I hope my husbands check is big and that my day care clients pay me tonight. As for the weekend we are going to be working on the house we are renovating.

That sounds great - I hope you get to go out and have a lovely meal. It sounds like you're both hardworking folks, so you deserve to treat yourselves - and that should also make it easier for you to get into your renovation tomorrow. All the best, and happy eating!
