What would YOU do without the internet?

What would happen to your life if all internet companies shut down? No more computer. Everything had to be done by snail mail, phone calls, cell phones and other means of communication. Would you be lost? I totally have my life revolving around the computer and it's sad. My business is ran from online even though I could personally do everything offline, just would make it a lot harder. The way I communicate with my friends would be less because this is the way I communicate with them. I think I would find myself bored. I can't even imagine my life before it. I don't even remember it. LOL So what would happen with you???

The internet is a very huge part of my life currently as I am job hunting and without having this it would take much longer and require more traveling and expense to find jobs to apply to. I also use it for entertainment, keeping up on the news and current events, doing research and keeping up with friends. Having owned a pc for several years now I can not imagine going back to life without the worldwide web ever again.

I hope you find a job soon. What is your line of work? Are you having any luck?

Thank you. Unfortunately I've had a few interviews but still no job offers. I followed my heart and made a dream happen when I moved here 3 years ago. I had to stop the abuse I was on the receiving end of a mentally disturbed neighbor that very badly impacted my life and kept working only to make it that much worse because the creep wanted to believe I had to want this person and live the way they intended only because they met me by becoming acquainted as a neighbor. With following a lifelong dream of living in the country I have put myself too far away from decent paying jobs and choices for employers, and certainly none of the caliber of the one I left then. I have been an administrative assistant for many years at a well-known ivy league university. I've recently worked in recruitnment and staffing for a language company that was awarded some federal government contracts and though I am happy no longer to be working for that company (I walked away from an unethical employer with very poor business practices) I did love the work I had been doing. That's what kept there as long as it did.

Come on people, the earth managed to exist for millions of years without the internet. Civilization has managed for thousands of years. Granted you might actually have to go outside (gasp) to experience the world but it won't hurt after a while. Something that has existed for only 10 years is hardly critical to life.

i truly think id go crazy if not for the internet. i do alot of work from it, and the stock market tracking... i don't know how people that play the stock market rely on any one else when they can do it themselves!

Oldie- I know we can all do it, it's just the thought that may scare some people since we rely on the computer for so much now a days. Businesses would be hurting bad because of it.

I guess I would be watching television right now. I would choose to go to some medical career since I'm a computer student right now.

Medical career seems like a good choice. Watching tv would become my favorite thing to do.

OMG--don't even think it....that would be worse case scenario with me--I'm not much of a phone talker myself...my friends think I'm a tad weird that I do e-mails to them when I could simply go over to the phone but many times I just don't feel like talking...and snail mail--yikes...I try to send a lot of my photo work or even short stories on-line --one it's faster, and two saves a lot of money in postage--before I used to spend a small fortune sending stuff like that out

Maybe if internet is gone then people will have to return the way they used to live before. People have lived their lives before without internet and they have survived it. People were the one who made internet then they should also find ways to solve the problem. For a while, maybe i don't know what to do. I have been in the internet everyday because I just don't have something to do for the moment. But I can move on without internet, there are a lot of things that I can do without it. I can just live a simple life with my loved ones. So it's alright for me.

You are right. We survived it before and we can survive it afterwards. Just would take some getting used to. Thanks for making me realize that I COULD do it if I had to. :)

Yes, it is just something that we will get used to... Just like in every changes, its seems like we don't like changes but the change is there already, we can easily adopt with it. It's just that we fear changes that's why sometimes we refuse it.

I've gone one month without the internet. I can honestly say I had a cleaner house and better meals on the table lol. But I think I was slightly insane at the time!

Oooo, good topic. After I managed to get through the withdraw syptoms (not an easy or pretty thing), I guess I'd deal with it and go back to life before the pc. I spend alot of time on here but I try to at least accomplish things on here rather than just waste time. I see ppl playing online games like EverQuest for 15 hours a day with nothing to show at the end. I can't do that...I have to have something to show for my time online. LIVE IN PEACE

I would find it extremely hard to survive without the internet for many reasons. I am a digital photographer, so I think it is fairly obvious a lack of computer would be the end of my career. I also use the internet to make money and to keep in touch with my family. We don't have a television either so I watch TV on the internet. I'd be lost without a computer.

This is interesting indeed. I can't remember what it was like or what I was doing before the internet, isn't that strange? I use my pc and Internet for almost everything, pay bills, banking, shopping, communication and work. I'd be lost!

So would I. I would actually be spending more money outside of the house because I would be shopping in person since there isn't a computer to help me spend my money. LOL

There was a time when humans lived without it and I am sure that it could be done again. it would just take some adjusting =) We are toooo addicted to comfortable things now, and we would be good to try and do something without taking the easy way every once in a while =)

Life comes to a standstill. This happen few times in office when there is a power trip. No phones no computer no internet. Hurray! We are off for breaks. There is nothing we can do and it is still within office hours. It is really a drag if there is NO internet since we are so used to the internet world. I would be keeping my TV or bed company.

To suddenly lose this means of communication would be a huge wrench. I can't imagine writing out letters and waiting days or weeks for a reply. But I have lived many years before computers or the internet came into being and always managed, so I expect I would adjust and get used to it again. In some instances I suppose I would get a lot more jobs done that need doing around here LOL
