When should I stop giving my daughter milk from bottle?

My daughter is now 15 months. Every 2-3 hours I give her a bottle of milk of 150ml for her, except when she's sleeping at night. I heard some of my friends said that they can't stop drinking milk from bottle until they are 5-10yrs old. WoW! Shouldn't that be too old to have milk from bottle? My daughter's cousin is now 2 yrs and his mother just bought him new bottles. My niece also drink milk from bottle until she was 8 yrs. I don't want this to happen to my daughter. I think she should be able to drink milk from the glass or with straw as soon as possible. Right now, I give her some water from glass so she can drink it slowly. Mostly, I gave her a straw from the glass. But both ways cause her cough. She didn't want to drink any water or milk using glass for babies which has some small holes like straw. For all the above, I'm wondering when would be the best to stop drinking milk from bottle? And how?

wow all my kids were away from the bottle before they were a year old and to give them milk at night you are risking tooth decay only give water with the new sippy cups that don't leak is how we weaned my grand kids from the bottles but I think a child should be weaned as soon as possible because it makes potty training easier. Good luck and hope this helps.

I really hope to stop the bottle soon. I stop giving milk to my daughter at night, cause I heard about the teeth decay. I'll try the sippy cups a.s.a.p. Thanks very much. By the way, i don't have any problem with the potty training.

That is good usually if they are still taking a bottle its hard to train them because there liquid intake is more I had that problem when I had to train my aunts girls because they lived with me for awhile I think with the tippy she will like it so much that the bottle will be history keep me up to date and GOOD LUCK my friend

I stopped with the bottle with both of my children around age 1. The bottles were only for bed time for a few months before they turned one and then I got rid of the bottles. They used a sippy cup for everything else. Does your daughter's doctor have an opinion? I would say to pitch the bottle definitely before age 2.

I haven't go to my daughter's DR more than a month. But I heard what people and expert say about teeth decay plus getting rid off the bottles soon. Thanks for sharing.

I think the best age to stop the milk feding through the bottles should at the age of 2yrs wher they will be able to drink by holding the glass or any other but it is quite to stop the bottle drinking at very stage early because if they edict to it they will demand for it and they even drink it in the night times which is not good for their teeth and to the cavities. All the best.

10 years old still having milk in the bottle? =( I think it is hard to let children loose their habbit of taking milk from the bottle, but that could be done little by little. Before schooling i guess is the right age that a kid totally stop from taking milk from the bottle. That is my idea, but until now my son is already 6 years old and still taking milk in the bottle before going to sleep and when he wake up the morning, my mom can't stop him. But whenever i am at home, i trained him using glass. Sad to say, i am far and my mom is not that patient to train my son. I think soon, he will suddenly stop because he felt so shy if someone see him using feeding bottle. One time i take my camera phone and capture him, he was so angry to me hehehehe.

That happens to my niece. So every after school when her mother picks her up, she hide in the car to have her bottle. She realizes that it's embarassing but this proves that habit is really hard to get rid off.

What you said is correct. The world health organization has banned feeding the babies with feeding bottle. It is recommended to use the steel glass to feed the baby with milk.

I started getting my son and daughter used to drinking out of a sippy cup and holding the sippy cup at around 6 or 7 months. That way they get used to the feel of it and also get used to it.I had no problem weening my son off of the bottle at a year old.My duaghter I thought we were going to have problems but at a year old she gave up the bottle too.She now has sippy cups to drink out of as well as my son.I use the Nuby kind.I also give them water instead of alot of milk becuase they are only supposed to have so much milk a day.My son though likes to drink alot of milk so since he is over 2 I get him 2 percent milk.He now likes to drink water as well as my daughter .Also the doctors say its best to ween kids off of a bottle by a year old because of the teeth and getting teeth decay from drinking from bottles. My son and daughter also drink from the cups that have characters on them and straws that go inside of the lid of the cup. Also they have new cups out that resemble adult cups except it has a lid on it and it is spill proof and they can drink from the lid that has the hole in it.which is pretty neat. Also my son and daughter can drink form a cup but my son and daughter spill most of it on them right now.So I fill it with a little bit in it and It is water.I would just give your daughter a sippy cup that way she gets the feel of it and at bedtime give the bottle and then gradually work up to giving her sippy cups at bedtime.I know she will probably cry for the bottle but sometimes you have to just get them used to the sippy cup and away from the bottle. And also keep doing what you are doing by giving her water in a cup to get her used to drinking from a cup.I wish you well with getting her weened from the bottle.I know it can be hard but it can be done with some patience.

Thanks very much for sharing. I start giving my daughter just water at night when she's 8 months. Milk is only during the day. But I should start the sippy cup soon to avoid teeth decay.

I stopped giving my daughter the bottle before she was 1. Dentist will tell you that giving them milk from a sippy cup and a bottle is bad on their teeth. It can actually cause tooth decay. If you plan on giving her a sippy cup make sure she doesn't crry it around all day sipping on it. Its best to get her to use a cup with or without a straw as soon as possible. I just threw my daughters bottles away. She never cried for the bottle so I really didn't have to worry about that. Good luck in your new adventure of weening the bottle and using cups.

My little one's 11 months & she has 4 bottles a day at 250ml - which is normal for her age, i guess it depends on whether you're giving her cows milk or formula? Also, every 2-3 hours is too often, she should be eating 3 solid meals, plus snacks - less milk, more food - or so my Dr told me. As for a bottle, well perhaps a little after 2 would be suitable? My daughter drinks juice from a spill free sipper cup so maybe you should start putting her milk in one of them around 2 & then slowly start taking the lid off so it's coming from a cup. I think 15 months is a little early to stop the bottle but you do whatever you think is the right thing to do.

Thanks for sharing. Well, it only takes 6 bottles for her, which makes less than 1 litre a day. Plus she doesn't eat much, maybe because she only has 4 teeths. Actually she likes to eat but no sufficient teeth to support her chew the food. I asked my daughter about her teeth but her Dr told me not to worry why the other teeth are not showing up. I really wish she can eat more. By the way, she dosn't like soft food, that's another problem. Well, 250ml at once is too much for her. But I'll try to give her more snacks. Thanks.

I would say to go ahead and start giving her milk in a cup now more then the bottle and start weaning her from the bottle. I didn't give my daughter milk from a bottle after she turned 1. Now she only gets water in her bottle at bedtime and the only reason I have even continued with that is because she has been teething like crazy lately and I hate to break her of her bottle when she is going through such pain. But as soon as she is done teething her bottles will be gone for good. Continuing to give her milk in her bottle now, especially if she is getting a lot of teeth could cause damage to her teeth. So it is best to try to break her from it now. But be sure to do things in your own time and as you are comfortable. Good luck.

Thanks very much for sharing. My daughter only have 4 teeth and these days she's chewing her bottle often. I thought maybe other teeth are coming. But as you said, I'll try to let her bottle gone for good using the sipping cup then glass.

Sippy Cup - A plastic cup equipped with a tight lid.
Children who are using bottles are more likely to develop tooth decay. Does she notuse a sippy cup? You should really be weaning your daughter off the bottle. You should have started that at six months. By fifteen months they should definitely not be having a bottle.

No, she doesn't like sippy cup. I also know about the tooth decay, that's why I should be un a hurry to take her bottles off from her. Thanks very much for sharing.

the best time to take a bottle away for health reason among other reasons is before or around the time of the first birthday. 5-10 yrs old?? are they nuts!!! 2 yrs old is too old. it drives me insane to see a child, clearly over a year or a year and a half with a bottle.

:D Thanks for sharing. Are they NUTS? :D Maybe. I'll try my best to let my daughter of the bottle. Maybe this is strange but almost everyone in my country leave their babies with the bottle over 1 yr. Rarely found those that don't drink milk from the bottle over 1 yr.

my daughter still asks for milk when she is two years old. Just give it to her in a cup around 18 months old. They will spill it thay is why someone should buy a sippy cup. Kids love that!! Good luck because it is hard sometimes to ween a kid off a bottle!!
