Variety is the Spice of Life...

I do not really have a favorite singer or a favorite song, there are just too many to choose from. Some of my favorites are Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, and Meatloaf. I love to sing a variety though when I am singing karaoke. It gets boring singing the same thing every night, or even the same type of music every night so I try to mix it up with all different types of music. There are some singers though that only sing the same two or three songs each week. Don't get me wrong, they do a great job and I love the songs that they sing, but it gets boring hearing the same songs week after week. I think it is so much better, at least if you are able to not only add more songs to your collection, but also to try different styles of music. I love variety, and try to do a little of everything. I have gotten many compliments on my ability to do such a wide range of music. I've done a little of just about everything from country to rock, male and female, new and old. I have trouble with the high notes, but I'm not too proud to ask the host to key the songs down for me, and I'm never afraid to try something new. My discussion is about my involvement with karaoke and about singing, so if you enjoy singing karaoke then I would love your feedback in this area. If not, that is ok too. If you aren't a singer, or don't enjoy karaoke, do you enjoy a variety of music in general? This can be on your radio, CDs or wherever.

i am a singer and yes it is true it is boring to sing the same song evertime i have to work. some of my (younger) co workers doesnt care about changing their ssongs but i do. people gets really bored when you sing the same song EVERYNIGHT. at first it sounds like a dream but when you hear in nightly slowly it turns out to be a nightmare. i know songs just like you alittle of everything. from the 50s to the present. from low tones to high tones (the ones which i can only reach lol).

I have trouble reaching some of the high tones too, so I leave some of those songs to those who are better able to sing them. There are plenty of other songs that I can sing well. Like you, I enjoy singing all kinds of music, and I have been complimented on the fact that I sing such a wide variety of songs. I am glad to find that there are so many others who also like to sing a variety.

I'm the same way, my songs often fit my moods... a little of everything, and you never know what you are going to get.

Yes I do. I like some of the old country song, 70's and 80's rock, soul, and pop. I'm also enjoying some of the recent pop music. For a few years there I would not listen to the newer stuff but now its more to my liking...Five For Fighting, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Michelle Branch, Kelly Tunstall.

I'm not much for singing in public but I do love to sing. I enjoy a wide variety of music but my favorites for singing are 'oldies' and Christian (gospel and contemorary). As for just relaxing and listening I only want classical.

I enjoy a lot of teh oldies and Christian music too. I am thinking about adding a couple of gospel songs to a CD to donate to Hospice of Michigan this summer. I don't know which ones I want to do yet though. There are quite a few so I just need to narrow it down a bit. You are right about classical being relaxing. Thanks for your response.

When I sing karaoke I try to mix it up and not do too many miserable songs. I have favorites to do, but since I've been going almost every Thursday I try not to sing the same thing 2 weeks in a row because I know how obnoxious it gets to hear it over and over if you're a regular at that venue. I used to work as a KJ a few years ago and At least 4 couples a night would ask to do I got you babe, Love Shack and Picture. Lucky for me I was only allowed to play the same song twice a night at least 3 hours from when it was played last. The KJ where I go now is fantastic. He will even get you a new song and have it (licensed, not pirated and not crapped out, usually Sound Choice) by the next week if it exists. So I'm getting to do a lot of the songs I love now. Thursday I did "Reason To Believe" By Rod Stewart, "Me & Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin, "We're All Gonna Die Someday" By Kasey Chambers and "You've Got A Friend" By Carole King. I couldn't drink so I didn't sing any goof off songs. I'm preparing to try "Sexy Back" By Justin Timberlake and "Fergalicious" by Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas if I can have a little liquid courage first.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I hope that you got a chance to try out your new songs by now. I agree with you that it is best to try out some new ones whenever we get the chance so that our older ones don't get boring to the same people when we sing them over and over. This way they enjoy them more when we sing them again after not hearing them for awhile.

I love singing karaoke. Mainly chinese songs though. I am assuredly fine in English but somehow, when I sing the english songs, they just don't come up right. It's ok if I cut an album myself (lol) but somehow they just don't seem to ideal for a karaoke setting. Just what I feel though (my friends feel the same too). :P

I have never tried singing any Chinese songs, nor do I know the Chinese language. I have made attempts at singing a few things where I wasn't quite sure what I was saying though. If anyone else knew, they weren't telling me. :P
