I think in this practical world working knowledge is more important. Specially in private sector no one cares about your certificats they select you on the bases of how much practical knowledge and working experience do you have. in some cases certificates may be wanted but just for verification . what did you feel please share your views ...

Working Knowledge is very important, but I would still not undermine the importance of formal education. Of course, the certificates from private institutes offering 3 or 6 month courses is more or less trash. But, any other real formal teaching is very much valid. As a person moves from a grad to a post grad scenario education is no longer class room like and it is more to open his avenues rather than to teach him something. And believe me courses like MBA or Management Aptitude courses do offer a lot. Cheers! Ram

i think that both the things are important for getting a job. practical knowledge is important to make the job easier for you and certificates are needed to get the job easily

i agree practical knowledge is vital. However, where I think certificates are important is in getting through the door in to the professions. Practical experience only really works when the status of the occupation is low, i.e manual work. For anything better, you need a full education blessed be

Absolutely right. With having mere certificates is not enough for procuring a job with good pay. When i joined my first job i have noticed one of my co- staff was not having a valid degree but she was very experianced in her job.I was suprised to see this as she could even handle computers without any certificate from any institution.I think practical experiance can taught us more and make us learn about the job.

When you apply for any job, you have nothing to show but all the certificates you have accumulated. It is often said that knowledge is power, knowledge is income. We can be robbed of our physical wealth or property but no one can take away our wealth of knowledge. A man of knowledge can survive anywhere in the world. I think both certifacate and practical knowledge goes hand in hand. One without the other will not see a better future in the working world.

Both are just as important for a job yea , but if you want me to pick out of the two i will chooese certificates , as i know most of the companies see certificates more highly than knowledge and expriences yea

I have always believed nothing can substitute for practical hands on experience. Coz anyone can pass and get a certificate. But often times we see that people are judged by the grades they keep rather than their ability to do a good job.

i agree. practical knowledge is what is tested by interviewer and once convinced of the good practical knowledge, then certificates of education are checked.

Zero - Zero zero zero .. how can a zero become hero ??
Dear skbadhan I agree with you that practical knowledge is more important .. but still certificates are necessary to show that we are educated because education is quite necessary for our personal development as well as for gaining practical knowledge.. yet I also agree with this point that a person having bunches of certificates and no practical knowledge is a zero.

Here, employers pay attention to the certificates at first. It seems that having certificates from famous schools can enter to the good companies easier. If you have lots of working experience but you have poor certificate, then perhaps you can't be hired.

Its certificates at present. But i do feel its more important to have practical knowledge. As one said. An experienced person is always more knowledge than bookish knowledge. Since Certificates are earned by learning but many times not understanding. But in practical knowledge you make mistakes and you learn from mistakes. MY OPINION IS FOR PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE.

Certificates and degrees serve a purpose, and that primarily for the first job after college. After that, work experience is what people look at. Practically speaking, job related knowledge and experience is most important. Have a great day.

as matter of fact for fresher, certificates are must. because if not given the opportunity how they can show the knowledge they have to the employer. the best things are certificates. But when you are applying to the job as a experience holder they are going to test your knowledge, esspecially knowledge in the work that you were doing for that much time, there they wont value your marks cards.

I also agree with you that practical knowledge is more important than the certificates and the cramming system that is being followed nowdays. It just so happens most of the times that good people are rejected because of the number of certificates held by them is less. I think that this system is completely absurd and it shouild be corrected as soon as possible. Its would only help the country and even the organisation.

I am an undergraduate...no bachelor's degree whatsoever but I was fortunate enough to land a very good job in a US based call center here in Manila. I am not an agent but an HR Admin Officer. I started out as an admin asst but worked my way to being a supervisor by showing everyone that I have the necessary experience and skills to offer even w/o a certificate or degree. I feel lucky and blessed when this industry came in the Philippines coz I wouldn't have been given this chance if not for them. What? If I had depended on Filipino- owned companies, I wouldn't have achieved anything, they are very much particular with certificates and degrees. No matter how experienced you are, they wouldn't mind entertaining your resume if you're not a college graduate. It is very sad to think but hey...i don't care anymore coz God has been good to me :)

Though theoritical knowledge is not important it doesnt contain the human emotional factor in it.only if you mingle with peoole you will know how to handle those people in real situation and how to apply the theoritical knowledge you gained put into practical.practical knowledge is more important than theoritical knowledge or certificates.once exp matters more than certificates.

i have lots of certificates but only one is anything that would go toward credits for a degree. i have never been interested in doing a degree as i never had the money and degrees werent that important when i was younger. now i regret it as i want to spend 6mths of the year in thailand and as i dont have a degree i cant get a work permit (prison or exile). at my age i really dont want to start doing a degree. i have so much experience in life and so many minor qualifications and i am very aware that, when a person with any degree no matter what it is would be able to work. even if they have never done anything with their lives or had any work experience in their life.
