I know this is morbid yet, I would like to know if any of you know a good site to use to check on a national level? I do not want to have to pay to find out if an old friend is still alive.

I'm not sure for the us.
I know a site for the uk which shows stats of certain things like "how many people have been mugged" from police reports and such.
