We have a pair of yearling geese who had been sitting on a small nest of eggs. recently I brought home three gooslings and the male goose took to them instantly. he ran over, all excited, then got confsed and ran back to the nest, checked the eggs, then back to the babies. he did this several times, then prceeded to herd them over to his mate, who was much more reserved and honked at Harry (male goose0 and made lots of sounds, motioning at the babies then the nest. Harry stood gaurd over the gooslings at all times, and even atacked my oldest son when he tried to crate the babies for the night, something neither goose has ever done1 it took Ginny abotu three days to become very protective and totally accept the gooslings! i think its fortunate we got themas all 4 of their eggs went bad. they stll sit the nest, but keep the adoptees very close! i think its so adorable! has anyone eles had geese or other birds adopt strange babies?

Perhaps it just goes to show that males of any species aren't the brightest! Did he think that his babies were going to arrive by Stork and be left under a bush? I am glad the female adopted them as well so it all ended happily. Did you know their eggs would be bad? Is that because they are young parents? Why did you have other goslings? Do you think if they have more eggs next year Harry will expect you to provide the finished article again to save them sitting on the eggs?

The eggs were the first clutch they layed, ever, and we gave thm a month and candled them and they were def rotten. they just didnt get firtalized. they weill get with it eventually. i thougt it was so funny because Harry looked like he was thinking, banies! but theres still eggs, whered th babies come from! hes a very good papa! he follows them and takesvery good care of them,as does Ginny. we got the babies just because we wanted more they may lay another clutch this year, but its ok if they dont till next year.
