Everybody wants peace of mind. You cannot have it by disobeying your conscience.
A old lady went to a bank to withraw from her account a sum of one thousand dollars. As soon as she had left after the transaction, the cashier discovered that she had paid her fifty dollars short. Without waiting for the old lady to discover this and return to the bank to claim the rest of the amount, the cashier rushed to her house and paid her the balance. Why did she hasten to do this?

"Honesty is the best policy", very well said. In honesty you really get paid at the Judgement Day. As God is seeing everything you are doing on this world and you sure will be rewarded on Judgement Day. When you are honest you sure feel very content, satisfied and free from tensions. If you are dis-honest, a greed for money develops in you which keeps on increasing which is very harmful to you and the society around you. So its good that the cashier showed honesty and returned the old lady's hard earned / saved money.

Because there are things that we live by, and they are important for us. This is what matters in life, our principles and our humanity.
i know that i would have done the same, i do not understand any other behaviour at some cases, and this is one of them.

You are absolutely correct .If you realise somebody is watching your acts from inside ,which at the time of doing wrong things tries to prevents you ,that conscience will give you peace of mind always ,if you listen to him and go according to him ,it will lead you to heaven and if one disobeys it will lead to hell.if i would say honesty,love,non-violence can be said as the quality of consciene.another thing is that if you earn money in wrong way that money is not going to give you worries only it will be spend on unnecessary things.
