So Near And Yet So Far!

I am trying so hard to get a job at the moment. Everytime I think I am in with a chance of nailing it, I get rejected. Has anything happened to you where you feel you are almost in reaching distance of getting it and then it is taken away at the last minute. I look forward to hearing your stories.

I totally know how heart-crushing, if not dream-shattering, it feels like to be an inch away from your goal--only to see it slip away before your very eyes. When I was still in grade school, I consistently practiced very hard to be a member of our school's basketball varsity team. I was really extremely hopeful, since I prepared myself well for the tryouts. Then, the day of reckoning came. Several scrimmages after, the selection process was over. The decision was out. I, too, was out. Before I decided to pick myself up, train harder, and try again, though, I truly felt painfully frustrated because of what happened. The following year, I felt positively prepared for the tryouts. I was confident that I was going to make it. Tryouts began. It seemed to be longer and harder than the previous year. I was enjoying every game, though. Then, tryouts were over. The decision was out. All my hard work paid off. I was able to redeem myself. I was accepted. The feeling of triumph was not for long, however, since upon submission of my birth certificate, my coach told me that I was several days over the age limit. It seemed like my world froze. I just can't believe what I was hearing back then. After deep reflection, however, I was eventually able to accept the harsh truth that I was out again. I told myself that I must move on and just take that bad chapter in my life as something that will only make me stronger. As the adage goes, what won't kill you will only make you stronger. I just thought of Bill Porter, Stephen Hawking, and Lance Armstrong, among others, to help me easily recover from my momentary defeat. I said to myself that if these people can conquer their ailments and succeed in life, why can't I do the same, considering that, like them, I'm also a human being? In the end, I realized that everything happens for a reason. The reason for our temporary setbacks may not be clear to us yet, but if we will continue to fight hard for our dreams, we'll surely know what the setbacks we've encountered are for.

Congrats on getting your job. I am not going to let it get me down, but it seems that employers do not want anyone under the age of 18 years. I will try and try again. Thanks.
