It is a need of hour, given the energy concern all over the world and specially for most industrialized countries, that we examine each of the alternate fuels for transportation, competing to secure their place in coming years.
I have written an article, see what you find interesting:-) http://www.helium.com/tm/345423

I think the focus must be on fuels that are not from fossil fuels. I am impressed with the fuels from food wastes. It would seem to take care of two problems. But I'm not clear on what power is used to make the biofuels. Can you make it using power produced from biofuel?
Like electric motors have to get the electric from somewhere. If we use electricity that is made by burning coal, we haven't really solved the problem.
I understand that the hydrogen fuel is very effecient and I hope they make a lot of progress in developing that.
My next car will hopefully be a hybrid. The other alternatives are still way to expensive for me. But with time they will be more affordable.
Since we don't seem to be highly motivated to use less fuel, then we'd better find a better way to get fuel than from fossils.

Biofuels do use fossil fuels in production depending upon what is the input material and what process one is useing but it's overall impact on environment is still healthy owing to the fact that it is biodegradeable. Developement is underway to reduce the fossil fuel in production of biofuel.
Electricity made by burning coal is surely not the answer but in many developed countries electricity for large scale transportation like for trains is from nuclear reactors which are not only renewable but also environment friendly with proper precautions taken.
Hydrogen is interesting because the only waste produced is water, H2O. But the only problem is that it's expensive to make and to preserve.
Hybrid are a good practical option compared to hydrogen and some other better forms because it's affordable. At least it's better than gasoline:-)
Thanks for your reading and interest, youdontsay:-)
