Borax is great for boosting the effectiveness of laundy detergent especially if you have hard water. I add it to my Tide when I do laundry. I use about a 1/4 of a cup. Another thing I have found to help the whites s to use only a half a cup bleach and half cup baking soda and of course your laundy detergent. Whites come out whiter and smelling fresh this way. What laundry tips do you have to share?

These are great tips for more effective washing of clothes. However, you have not mentioned whether these chemicals can be added while using a washing machine. Have you used these chemicals in a washing machine? Did you find out from the washing machine compqny whether is is OK to put these chemicals in the machine?

In a washing machine is the only way I wash clothes. Borax has been around for ages as a laundry booster and is perfectly safe in the washing machine. Baking soda is perfectly safe in the machine also.

I don't use Borax- Never heard of it- I think I'll take a look for it though- We have hard water and use a water softener- but sometimes the clothes still don't come out as clean looking as I think they should. I love the tip on baking soda and bleach- I love bleach- I even clean with it (wash walls, etc). Never tried baking soda either in my laundry- I just read somewhere that people use vinegar in their laundry also. I'm not big on the vinegar smell- so I haven't tried it yet.

You can find Borax in the laundry detergent isle in the supermarket it comes in a green box. I love it. You can use it in cleaning sollutions and even in some kids projects (making goop). Mix it with water as a household cleaning sollution. You can also add a teaspoon or two to automatic dishwasher detergent to improve the cleaning of your dishes!!
