I've beenat my job for 7 years now, ever since i left hgh school. I've left that job once already and come back. It's a good job because my aunt is my boss and it's such an easy job (just factory work). I have since completed a few courses and am starting my own bridal makeup business but I think it will be a while before I can live solely of that. I am desperate for a change of job and I think I would enjoy a desk job-even if it was just reception.
I wonder if I have any chance of getting a job like that? I have completed my high school certificate and I have basic computer skills so do you think employees would consider me for a job? Just curious...

Wow, you have some exciting plans for your life. I wish you the best of luck! I had a receptionist like job for a medical facility once, and was also a secretary for a church. Even being a libary assitant utilized skills that I didn't have to learn from a college. Although, I was in college while I had each job. Even being a receptionist at an animal clinic (Not a shelter, they stink) usually doesn't expect more than the basic desk, filing, and computer skills. I've never worked at one, but my friend who who had a GED applied.

I love animals-working in a vet's surgery would suit me fine!

I don't knopw exactly what the requirements are for secretarial jobs are where you live? They would most like;ly want you proficient in key bording skills. ie. can process quite fast. You would need to know popular computer programs such as Excel.
It's always useful to update your skills, & this will help you eventually with your bridal business.
Find out from your local employment agency exactly what skills are needed for secretarial work, & go from there.
I can see you have the right attitude, so with persistance I am sure you will make it.
Good Luck.

I don't see any reason why someone would not accept you for an office job as it really isn't that hard. have you thought of applying for ajob in telephone banking or mobile phone customer servcies. Int he UK these jobs are very popular and you don't need any experience to get them.
Good luck and I wish you well.

I think you should definitely make a move now while you are still young enough to make a change. If you are unsure as to whether you would qualify, then you can try going to an employment agency for a career evaluation. They might be able to place you. A better idea though would be to try and tie in your desired career as a make-up artist with a current job. How about getting a job in a bridal salon or in a hair salon where you could network to get customers? I hope you get the job of your dreams.
