My son woke up from his nap sick :(

He had a cough for the last couple of days (my infant was sick before, the child I am referring to now is my 2 year old) and it seemed to be getting better. Today when he woke up from his nap he was weezing, had a fever and wouldn't eat. So I took him right into the after hours clinic, and it turns out he has an ear infection, strep throat (they think, they didnt take a culture), a fever of 101.2 and red swolen throat. :( They gave him a nebulizer treatment for the weezing and swolen throat, and gave us steroids for the swelling and an antibiotic for the strep and ear infection. POOR KID. This brings me to my question. Why aren't all or at least most pharmacies 24 hours? It took us over 2 hours to find a place to fill his RX and they said it HAD to be filled tonight because he was so bad. Do you have any 24 hour pharmacies near you?

Oh I am so sorry you are having such a rough time with the boys being sick. It is no fun for them or you. I hope he feels better soon. To answer the question, we have 2 Walgreen's here. One on the west side has always been a 24 hour but the east side, the one closest to my house, just became a 24 hour in the last 3 months. I love them at the west side, they are always there to answer my questions. On a side note... watch the steroids. We had to have them for my 2 year old just about a month ago because of her asthma. I swear the child barely slept! She refused to take a nap and was completely wired after a day of being on it. I hope it doesn't do that to your little one. Everyone reacts differently but I know I will be begging for something different next time lol.

Yikes, scary! It's prednisone and it's not bad so far. He didn't want to nap at first then he took a 2 hour one. We just gave him his second dose and now he seem's all peppy instead of getting tired. bah!! luckily it's only for 5 days!

Oh I was hoping you wouldn't have to go through what I did. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I have never figured out why hospitals and after hour clinics give you prescriptions to fill after the pharmacies are closed and tell you to take them that night. They should send enough home to hold over to morning or pharmacies should be open later. One of the two should happen.

I totally agree! I don't understand, they used to give us enough to last the nite, and now they dont. I guess they got cheap, or they don't carry them anymore :(

I have never heard of a 24 hour pharmacy but I really think there should be some. people don't always get sick during office hours. But around here, the doctor will give you a few pills to get you through the night until you can get to a pharmacy. I hope your son feels better soon.

Come to think of it NO- I wonder why they aren’t too- You’d think the after hours place would give you enough samples to get through the night- I imagine the ER would in my case. I would ask them- There aren’t any pharmacies open past 8 PM in my town- That would stink! I hope your little one is feeling better since the medicines! Poor kiddo!
