How to put a tick mark through a word in MS-word, MS-powerpoint??

hello friends, i am in a problem. my boss has a presentation next week. he wants me do a project where i need to PUT TICK AND CROSS MARKS THROUGH THE WORDS, preferably outlined (not after, before or between alphabets. for instance, i want to put tick mark over olive oil, refined oil....and cross mark through butter..
i have tried inserting from symbols, but is not coming across the word.
i can't do it, please help.

It is easy. Try this:
1. type figure 3 (from the row above 'qwertyuiop[]' and NOT from the numbers on the right set/block).
2. Select it (only '3')
3. Change the font to 'Dixieland' (It should be installed in your PC)
Try it.
Dixieland is a set of characters with all sorts of symbols and marks.

sreevasu, the problem is not finding the symbol, i have found the symbol, but can't place it through any text.

Hopefully, someone (member) will come out with the correct and to the point solution to your problem. I also do not have any idea. (In case of no solution...you may use black pen for tick marking or for cross marking).
