i've always loved the way they smell and they are so beautiful. it's definately my favorite thing about summer. i'm so excited. i just bought a small tree. of course it will take years to grow but it still has a few flowers on it and smells so great. does anyone else have lilac trees?

yes they do smell very good however they can get out of control so when it starts getting bigger you should prune it a bit. We have this huge monstrosity of a lilac bush by our driveway that needs cut back some.

Yes! We have a lilac bush right next to our driveway, however we didn't plant it, it's been there a long time and was already there when we moved in. I love it! I just wish it would bloom longer, because soon it will be done and just a big bush that blocks part of our driveway lol. Growing up we had lilacs in the backyard and they smelled so good. Love them! Great discussion.

I wish I could say I have all kinds of flowers but I have allergies to all flowering plants. My neighbor has some lovely flowers in her yard and I get to see them and enjoy them but to have them in my yard would be too much. I hope you enjoy your lilac tree it sounds very nice.

I love the smell of lilac, there is a lilac tree by the wood near our house and I will go out there and cut some of them to put in a vase on our table and it makes the whole house smell great. May your new tree bring you much joy for many years to come.

We had lilacs in Massachusetts. My mother loved them. When I moved to New Hampshire, there was a French lilac tree on the property. It was very big and would bloom later than the regular lilacs. It would be covered in yellow butterflies and bees. My mother went home to be with the Lord in 1996 and was cremated. We buried the box at the base of the lilac tree. When we sold our property, we removed the box. In Alabama I haven't found any lilac bushes or trees. Too bad, what a wonderful fragrance. Here though the Wisteria is extremely fragrant in the spring! As close to a lilac as I'll get I suppose.

I used to have one by the front window of the house I lived in. I would keep the window open the whole time it was in bloom just so I could smell it all day long. When I buy a place to call my own the first tree I will plant will be a lilac tree.

I'm with you. The smell of blooming lilacs remind me of the fun-filled summers of my youth. The neighbors have a lilac tree that about 1/3 of it hangs over the fence into my mom & dad's back yard. It was there when we moved there when I was about 3 years old. I love the smell of lilacs...probably my most favorite smell in the world.
