we're trying to decide whether we want to have a sort of "house warming" party indoors or a barbecue outdoors. It will be the weekend of June 1 so we're expecting the weather to be nice which makes me lean towards the barbecue. Since she has two kids and there will be other kids there I think outside is our best bet so they can run around and not have to worry about running into things. We are inviting people who have never met them I think the outside party would be the best idea as far as that is concerned also.
Because the 4th of July is only a month away she wants to have it indoors because people will be going to barbecues only a few weeks later and I can see her point there. But, I still think it would be better than indoors.
Any ideas or suggestions? Which would you prefer if it were going to be your party? Being summer wouldn't it be better for the kids to be outside in the yard instead of being stuck in the house? I'm not looking for everyone to agree with me, I appreciate all input from mylot members.

I think an outdoor barbecue would be best. It will allow more room for people to spread out in. Especially with children being there, they need space to play and run around. I love going to barbecues, so I see no problem with you having one in June and then people attending a 4th of July one. They are a whole month apart, so that's plenty of time. Go for the barbecue and have a great time!

Space is the main reason I'm going towards the outside party. When kids are involved you know they need a lot of it.

If the weather is in your favor, I would absolutely go for outdoors.
If it's possible maybe you could do a compromise...inddors and outside...but that would really only work well if her place was on the ground floor.
Even though July 4th is a weekend away, it's my opinion that you can never go to too many cookouts! I live in New England and we have far more inside weather than outside weather so any chance for something to happen outside is scooped up.
I'm going to be moving in June as well. Wish your daughter a happy housewarming!

They say June is one of the biggest moving months in New England and now you have proven that to me. What a coincidence huh? She will be on the first floor and it is very easy to go from indoors to out with no problem so maybe we will both have what we want.

I can see where she'd want it indoors for the variety because of future BBQ's, but I can see where outdoors is just so much more practical. I'd go for outdoors, regardless, because I like to get out, when I see people. Nothing worse for me than a bunch of people indoors. I suggest doing something different, to make one outdoor party different from another, so the BBQ's don't all blend in. Maybe a theme party of some sort (4th of July for that one, and something different for the housewarming party) just to spice it up a bit.
Maybe try bringing dishes from around the world for one of the parties, or something...

Great ideas and I've written them down to show her. We will have some sort of theme. I of course always go for the practical ideas where my daughter is on the lazier side and thinks it's easier to do everything from the inside. We've spent enough time in the house and now that decent weather is here I don't see why we can't go out!

You should savor the nice weather and have a barbecue instead so you wouldn't have to worry about the kids running around inside the apartment and getting hurt. Plus it will make the guests more comfortable to mingle while eating/ drinking than sitting down inside the apartment.
I love barbecues.. can I come?! haha!

I guess I should put you on the "list"...lol...
The kids running around in the house really gets to me and is one of the best reasons for doing this outside. They can knock just about anything over and it would be no problem.
