Do you have your groceries delivered to you?

I see advertisements for sites like Peapod and others who advertise having your groceries delivered right to your house. I wonder how many people actually use a service like that? Do you? I know that I like to be really picky about my grocery purchases. I pick up about 4 tomatoes before I find the one I want, I like my cucumbers really straight, I like to smell a mellon before I buy it, I like my milk to come from way back in the cooler. As I think about it, I know there where times when I used to work a 50+ hour work week when I might have considered it. I was often so tired at the end of a day that going to a store was the last thing I wanted to do. Also, I always wanted to spend my weekends do fun stuff with my husband... but those services weren't available then, or at least I was aware of them. I wonder who the target market is for that service. Here are a few of my ideas: elderly people who want the heavy times (milk, laundry detergent, etc) delivered to them, single men, people living in NYC. Who else? What do you think of these services? Do you use them? Would you?

I think that these services are very useful for the elderly, the people who work very long shifts and those who cannot get to the store easily! I think is is good to provide a service such as this for people who need it! I do not think I would use it though as I too am fussy , just like you!

I think that they provide a valuable service to the elderly, the disabled and those who don't have transportation. I don't know how much these services cost. If they were inexpensive and I was not able to get to a store myself I would probably use them if I fit into one of the categories that I have mentioned.

I admit, I have never had my groceries delivered to me. I am very interested though, just because I hate grocery shopping. I will check out peapod, is it peapod.com? I am very interested.

I'm with you- I don't use the service either- I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to not have to go to the grocery store and fight the crowds- But I am super picky also! Plus I'm a couponer so it would not work for me! I know that my cousin who lives in Michigan orders groceries online and has them delivered- He is married with 2 kids- He orders Atkins stuff and other organic stuff- his wife goes to the store for the normal things- So maybe speciality items that you can't find in the grocery stores in smaller towns? And yes I'd agree- elderly people- I can't see many single men doing it - I see them running to the store when their cupboards are bare or eating out!

Hey, that's an idea, for someone doing a special diet. Then you don't have to be tempted by all the other stuff at the store.

This is very popular here in the UK, that if you spend over £25/$50 you get a home delivery service for FREE. It is as you can imagine especially popular with mothers with lots of children and with the olderly who cannot get out much and obviously who can't carry heavy shopping. I haven't used the service myself but my mum has because she hurt her shoulder badly through carrying too much! So it's ideal and a godsend.

They sound pretty good and I would use them on somedays that I don't want to go to the store, but that ain't going to happen anytime soon. I still like to go grocery shopping.

When I lived in Philadelphia they had a service like this and I used to love it, especially since I lived in the city and had no transporation out and they did not offer such large stores to residents of the city, it was nice, the small fee they charge to pick out the items, get it delivered and brought to you door is nothing, and the time you save is unbelieveable, not to mention that your lists are saved and from each week so if you have a staple that you get often it will remember you. The one I used I could also use my coupons at and would give those to the driver so I could get credit on my next bill. Where I live now, there is no such service like this or I would be using it today.

I would use them but I have never seen any such service where I live. Seems like a good idea because there are a lot of elderly people in Florida who could use this service. A lot of them have to depend on someone else to get them to the stores. There was a store in Georgia that you could call in your order and they would gather up your groceries so you could pick them up at their drive thru later, but I haven't seen one here in Florida. That was convenient for people who were on their way home from work.

I think a lot of disabled people use it as well. I saw a Schwans truck pull out of my apartment buidling last week. I'd love to have my groceries delivered. But I don't think I could do it money wise, and also I want to pick out what I want. Besides all that, I really should get out and do it myself because I only have to go to the store every two weeks.

I have our groceries delivered 'most of the time.' Up here, the service I use is called eieifoods, and they're very efficient and reliable. They charge $9.00 for handling and delivery, and you can pay by credit card, debit card, or cash. The reason I use this service, is because we don't have a vehicle, and I don't like to inconvenience others, by getting them to take me shopping. I don't take a cab, because in the end, it turns out to be more costly. Once in awhile, I go shopping myself, and then it's a 'real treat' for me.

Yeah, I think a high-end grocery store here in my country does that sort of thing. I don't know if they have a market for it though, because I never really tried their service. It usually takes me ages to get my groceries specially if I'm going to get fruits or meat. But I guess that would be a useful service for those who always get the same product like canned or bottled goods.

Hi makingpots, I love to have the service if it was available. I think this service is wonderful for people with special needs, elderly people, busy working parents/individuals or mummies with toddlers. It will be very convenient also for people who dont have their own transportation to have their groceries delivered right at their doorstep.
