Internet is not simply a medium for you to find information of entertainment anymore. It is fast becoming your personal banking and trading gateway. Since you exchange and send personal, confidential information through the internet, it is very important for you to make sure that your PC is not infected with any spyware or Trojan virus that would compromise the security of your information. I've written a detailed security measure that I take to protect my PC at my Hubpages. Do check it out at : http://hubpages.com/hub/internet_security_ways_to_protect_ourselves To simplify things what you have to do is 1. Make sure your computer is not infected with virus. If you suspect it is, reformat it 2. Use good, secure browser. 3. Install and update Antivirus 4. Do not use guessable Password (Use instead Password Generator software to generate random Password, I've given a link to a FREE password generator site in Hubpages, click from there). You can use Password Management software to manage your passwords of various site. 5. Disable Activex whenever you have no use of it 6. Use alternative temporary firewall like Sandboxie or use Linux Live CD to access your banking sites 7. Don't click on any link from email claiming from your banking provider. Its definitely a scam I've detailed all this point in my Hubpages site. Click on this link if you are interested to learn more. Any additional suggestion will be appreciated too. http://hubpages.com/hub/internet_security_ways_to_protect_ourselves Thanks

"Make sure your computer is not infected with virus. If you suspect it is, reformat it" There's a limit as to how many reformatting you hard drive can take. So instead of reformatting every time your computer gets infected with a virus, why not just use a good anti-virus to lessen your computer's vulnerabilities? It would definitely save your hard drive ^_^

I agree. My suggestion was for those who DID NOT use any antivirus and their PC got infected. You can use Antivirus to scan and even repair/delete the infected files. But, the best way still to clean up an infected drive, is to reformat it. Sometimes, some antivirus would not be able to detect TROJAN files

Uhm, I think reformatting is a bit overboard. Just get a good antivirus and save yourself some time and effort.
