What do you think about this story. 73 year old man's house starts on fire.He didn't realize the upstairs was on fire because the house is large. He hears the sirens, goes to the door to look out and smells the smoke and realizes that smoke is beginning to come down the stairs. He had a huge bulldozer parked near his house. The police yelled to leave the house. He ran over to move the dozer. The cops and a fireman dragged him off the dozer and beat the heIl out of him. This is a true story because I know the old man it happened to.One of the police officers trial is starting this week. The officer said it is against the law to try to save anything after you are told to vacate the area. Any thoughts?

I thought the fireman should be the ones trying to get the old man out instead of just asking the old man out! It is really inhumane to beat the old man but perhaps the firemen are really overly overwhelmed and they forgot that he was an old man. I do not approve of the old man trying to save his bulldozer from the fire. It is simply beyond reason, in my opinion.

I think having it there could make the fire worst.Bear in mind the old man was not the one that call the FD.He came out of the house and ran to the dozer. They grabbed him and beat him.

Since the dozer poses a danger, then the firemen ought to be shot for focusing on the wrong priority.

Yeah that those officers were really out of order! It may be against the law to save things after you have been told to vacate the premises but surely the bulldozer wasn't in the house and could have made the situation with the fire! On the other hand I don't know what it is like in your area but we hear so much about the emergency services being attacked these days for no reason and with different weapons and vehicles that they could have thought they were in danger? I know it doesn't really sound plausible - just like the officers excuse just didn't wash! Miss you Mom - been thinking of you! xxxxx

Well these people all know each other.Everybody knows this hard working older man.We will know after the trials who gets charged. The DA seems to think that the officers and fireman used excessive force. They continued to beat him after he was handcuffed in front of the mans neighbors so there were lots of witnesses. Miss ya too Doll oxxoxo Mom

Just because the old man tried to move the dozer doesn't mean he was not listening to the police officer. Poor old man. The police officers and the firemen are the one who deserve to be beaten to pulp. Once my neighbor's house was on fire too. I did several trips back to my house to get all our things. If the police officers and firemen saw what I'm doing, does it mean they will beat me too. No way! I will slap them a 10 years imprisonment or better yet demand suspension of their license.

You have got to be kidding me!!! What was the point of them pulling him away from the bulldozer, if they were going to beat the crap out of him? How is it against the law to try to save your property? And why would they hit a seventy-three year old in the first place. They could have killed that man.

Thank God this old guy is a tough old bird but he was injured.Apparently it is against the law to enter an area that has been deemed unsafe. We loose more and more right daily. What is happening here.

Granted maybe he shouldnt have tried to move the bull dozer but I think the police and fire fighters could have stopped him without beating him. He was 74 for goodness sake. I sure didnt know it was a law not to try and save things and I'm sure he didnt either. Hopefully the officers will be held accountable for their actions.

Right now the officers are on a paid leave. So we are paying their salary while they do nothing.I don't know but I think something id wrong with the whole way our justice system works.

Sometimes we must empathize first before imposing the law. The officer may be right if it's just about the law. However, there's also a human right that he must also considered before doing an act. What he did was wrong because he shouldn't threat the man like that. Sometimes we forget to understand our act before doing it. God created us equally, so we must try to respect each and every human right.

I think that's bullcrap. There was no need to beat an old man for trying to save his dozer. That is excessive force. I don't think it's even a law that you can't save belongings from a fire. I mean it's not like he ran back in the house.

Even if it was and it is not where I live, that is no reason to be beaten up, that police officer should go to jail.

It was actually 2 officers and 1 fireman against 1 old man.Poor old guy had black eyes and bruises all over.We hear this too much. There are alot of good police officers and then there are the ones that are cops to be big shots not to be servants of the people!

The cops could have saved his life. However you say "beat the hell out of him" are you sure they they not just using force to get him to safety. I will try and see if this in on the 'net so I can see how badly he was beaten before I pass judgement.

I doubt you will find it on the net because it has not even been in the papers. The board meeting sent the news reporter out saying that discussion of this was still under investigation and it wouldn't be fair to try them in the press. If you find anything let me know cause I would like to read it also.

Whether it was against the law or not, to try and save anything from a vacated area, the police had absolutely no right to beat this man. How do they know he was going to try and save anything anyway. Whatever was going through their minds? The way you're talking, this was an old man, who probably just wanted to get the bulldozer as far from the house as possible, in order to prevent it from blowing up! He very likely thought about the gas in there and what would happen if the flames or heat reached it. However, I would put this line of thinking as well beyond the mentality of guys who join the PD for the sole purpose of being able to deliver punishment to people by their own hand. I think it's way out of order, and I hope the police involved in the beating are severely reprimanded.
