As some of you know this is my hometown so I keep up with the news. I was really pleased to see that some young people from all over the world are doing something positive. I get so tired of just reading about crime and cruelty. These are the kind of young people who give's one hope for the future. What do you think of this article?
Youth Assembly held in Glasgow
GLASGOW, Scotland May 22 -- Young people from 66 countries gathered in Glasgow, Scotland, for the first Global Youth Assembly organized by the Scottish Youth Parliament, Oxfam and Civicus, an international volunteer organization. The participants, aged 18 to 25, debate issues like poverty, climate change and human rights.
The theme of the assembly is "accountability to future generations." Five huge globes carried by more than 100 young people representing the five continents paraded into the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow to begin the proceedings, BBC News online reported Tuesday.
Rajiv Joshi, chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament, said young people worry about the kind of world in which they will grow up. They want to see action from politicians to live up to their promises at the G8 summit of world leaders two years ago at Gleneagles, as well as action to combat world poverty and climate change.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to come together and share their ideas and interests. It is also a great chance for young people to promote their opinions and arguments and learn how to participate in debate, concerning worldwide issues," Joshi said.
The two-day Youth Assembly will have workshops on how to get involved in the political process and will appoint delegates to the full World Civicus Assembly to be held in the SECC immediately afterwards.
Leila Mucarsel, a Civicus youth delegate from Argentina, said, "Civicus World assemblies have been successfully held in different cities of the world with wonderful results. But there was something missing. We, the youth activists from all around the world have been asking for an event like this for a long time, and after a period of hard work and planning it has finally become a reality."

Hey honey - as I only live 30 miles away from Glasgow we do get the news from there as our local news! I had heard of this Assembly and think it is a wonderful idea and good to see that young adults are interested in the future and getting involved in ways to improve it! Good for you spreading the word! xxx

I do remember going there when I was really young and it is till there now although it is very different! I think it was because of the SECC (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre) opening that the changes were made to the Kelvin Hall! It is now a Transport Museum and also a indoor Sports Arena for Athletics and boxing, that kind of thing! It is a bit sad when they change like that but at least it hasn't disappeared like some of the older buildings and is still in use! xxx

True, the good kids don't get much credit in the news! Last I checked though, they haven't disbanded the National Honor Society or other organizations for young people who want to do something positive in their lives.
Most the kids are great!

That is a really good idea...and I hope a lot of youth got to be represented and better yet I hope that the current political leaderships of the world had representatives there. Seems to me that current leadership could have posed a few questions to see how the younger generation felt. It would be great if they could work at some of this stuff together. We certainly are not passing a healthy earth to our youth and they should have a say in many current issues.
