Do remember the days when we would ride our bikes all day? I would ride my bike with alot of friends especially during the summer months when we were off from school. Yes we would sing and laugh and not have a care in the world. One day while I was riding with my girlfriends I was looking up in to the sky and I ran right into a parked car! Well that really hurt.LOL And let me tell you I never looked up to the sky again. Can you remember any riding your bike?

My first experience in riding a bike is also the same day I almost swore not to ride it again. It was during my high school days, back when there were not v-brake or disk brakes on bikes. The brake was activated by pedaling backwards. It was called a coaster brake if I am not mistaken. I was doing down a gentle sloping hill at perhaps around 10 kph when the chain derailed. Now in a coaster brake, you need the chain because as you back pedal, the gears are engaged through the chain to make the bike stop. Without the chain, you cannot stop the bike! I was on the verge of a nervous attack as I frantically thought of a way to stop it. Thoughts of crashing on the fence at the end of the road, breaking every bone on my body or worse, perishing entered my mind. The road's end was fast approaching and I was nowhere near any solution. Then suddenly, I thought of an uncle who visited us once while riding his bike. It didn't have any brakes at all and as I was curious then, I asked him how he stopped the bike. What he did was put his right foot, with a shoe of course, on the front wheel and pressed on it, effectively making his right foot the brake pad. I immediately did the same and I stopped the bike just in time, a mere two feet before I the fence at the end of the road.

That's very clever of you. I'm glad it turned out okay. I hope I would have had the presence of mind to think of a solution myself. When I used to try to rollerblade I had trouble stopping and so I would roll onto the grass when I wanted to stop because it would slow me down enough to be able to get stopped without injury.

my sister and i were only 12 mos. and 1 wk. apart,we used to always hang out together when we were younger always playing with neighborhood kids riding bikes until, i was 9 yr.s old we moved into a house on a busy street, one of the main streets we lived right on it. so my parents wouldn't allow us in the front yrd. anymore, not even in the back b/c we had a pool. i hated that house. my mom still lives in it.

When I was young and lived at my Dad's, my step-mother, my sister (she was like 2), my oldest brother and I used to bike ride all over town. My step-mother had a little baby seat on the back of her bike and my sister loved it. A very happy memory for me. LIVE IN PEACE

one afternoon during our high school days, we were riding our bikes going around in circles in our vilage and out of nowhere appeared a dog running after us. we were all shouting and had to move our bicycles fastest as we can until we reached the guard's house. the guard saw the dog and shooed him away. if not for the guard we could have been bitten by the dog. from that time on my friends decided to go biking at the park where there were no animals around.

oh yeah my friends and I would ride our bikes all over the place, heck I used to ride it to my friends house which was almost 10 miles away and then we'd ride to our other friends house about six miles away and then we'd ride somewhere else or go make ramps and jump and crash and no we didn't where helmets and yes i'm fine, well maybe not, but it's not because i didn't wear a bike helmet. I loved riding my bike and then i got older and just wanted to drive, no more bike riding.

Ohh yes Terry, I will always remember those days. Riding bikes with friends, enjoying the whole time without caring about anything, because as a kid you don't have to think hard about anything or don't have responsibility to care. I get emotional when I think about those days. I was always careful while riding bikes. As I was afraid of getting hurt:).

Oh yes, I loved those days, easy going, carefree, it was brilliant. We used to ride our horses all day too, we would take a picnic lunch and not come back home until dark. I had a little dog that used to follow us everywhere like a shadow, and when he got tired he would jump up and sit on the front of my saddle. I would give anything to have just one of those days back. Thanks for the memories.

I never had a bike of my own...not that my mom couldn't have afforded it--so why she never got one for me I'll never know--but one day when I was a kid, about eleven years old I asked one of the neighborhood kids if I could ride her bike for awhile and she let me....I must have given my mom a heart attack!...Here I was never having riden a bike before...and just at that moment my mom's looking out the window, and I'm zooming by on the bike at full speed! LOL Afterward, she would take me to this park where you could rent bikes for the day...so she's rent one for herself and for me every weekend during the warm weather....years later it dawned on me....for the amount of money she spent renting the bikes she could have bought me about fifty of them! When I asked her years later about this...why she never bought me a bike as a kid, she just shrugged...oh, well, my mom was a bit weird

I used to ride quite a bit but it's gotten so dangerous with the amount of people not paying attention. There always multitasking and are only concerned with where there going.

Those were good days. We lived four houses down from a park and right around the corner from our elementary school. We rode our bikes everywhere. We were out the door at 6 in the morning and back when the streetlights came on. I remember whenI was in sixth grade I was riding home from school and my sister was driving home from high school. We were at the top of our street and racing. (obviusly she would have won) She slowed down so we could race, and I was going so fast that when i braked I skid so bad i lost control and ate asphalt right before our driveway. She pulled in and being the sister that siters can be, instead of helping me up she fell out of the car laughing. I remember that every time I look at my scar on my thigh.

I was thinking about this just the other day. Life is so different now. When I was little in the summer I would take off in the morning on my bike and maybe I would come home for lunch or maybe someone else's mom would give me a sandwich that day and I wouldn't come home until dark. What great times (and what great legs I used to have, hee hee!). These days I'm uneasy about even letting my little boy play by himself in the yard without me out there with him. Now granted, he's only 4, but I still can't imagine him having the same freedom I had when he gets a little older. NOT because I don't want him to be free, but because I'm so afraid of predators and because traffic is so much worse that I would worry about him getting hit on his bike. For the most part he only gets to ride his bike when we put it in the car and take it to the park, and I think that is really a shame, but it is a sad fact of life in my opinion.
