Have you ever cut your own hair? I have cut my own hair a few times and sometimes it turns out okay, while other times I have messed it up pretty bad! I don't like paying for haircuts (i'm cheap!) and i enjoy experimenting with what I can do myself. In fact, I think I am going to cut my hair today.
Have you ever cut your own hair at home? How did it turn out?

Yes I have cut my hair a few times, because I don't want to pay for it either =) It usually turns out fine, I don't try anything fancy, just cutting it straight!! I can frame it around my face too, which is really easy. I just started paying attention to the hair dressers when I did get my hair cut so I learned how to layer it as well.

I once cut my bangs at home, and they ended up WAY too short. That was a good lesson to me in why I shouldn't try to cut my own hair. :)
At the same time, however, I really hate paying $10 or more to have someone trim my hair. I'd really like to be able to do that at home, instead. And my fiance needs a haircut, but I'm just a little worried about doing that myself. He has very long hair, and I'm afraid of messing it up!

It's good to just do a little at a time, that way if it gets messed up he can just go get it fixed, and it won't be much shorter.

I only cut my bangs. Sometimes I don't do a very good job with them. I think I need better scissors. I have never tried to cut the length of it. I used to go to a salon to get it done but I can't afford it anymore. I am hoping my sister-in-law will trim it when she comes over this year. I haven't had it trimmed since the last time they came over and that was two years ago now.

Cutting the back yourself makes it difficult to get a straight cut.. luckily I have wavy hair so it's hard to tell when it isn't straight. I can't afford going to the salon either. Last time I went the woman told me that my hair looked green and I needed to pay her 15 dollars to fix it? I was like... I am looking for a haircut, not a color and my hair is brown. Now that I think of it, she was really rude and after she cut it she said, "yeah, you look so much better now.. it's actually cute." I guess that's what you get for a $5 Borics hair cut! Anyway! Thanks for the comment, take care :)

It's nice that your mother and sister trust you enough to let you cut their hair. I don't think my mom would like me doing hers haha

I have never cut my own hair. I am not a hair person at all. I am not that good with styling it either. I'm cheap too so it has been a long time since I last got it cut. I think I will get my boyfiend to trim the ends for me but thats about all I will trust him to do.lol.

This is a topic very close to my scalp! I usually cut my own hair often with disasterous results. The last time I did it I made an enormous bald patch and I had to shave my entire head of hair off - not that there was much left anyway! I was lucky as it was summer and it was very liberating!
Now i've decided to grow it long so I don't have to bother with the stuff! lol ;)

Since I really do not have the money to spare for paying someone to cut my hair I have my wife do it. She does a really nice job.

It's nice to have someone who can cut your hair for you at home :) My mother used to do mine, but she moved now so I am left to try it myself.

as far as cutting my man's hair...I stick to clipping the ends when I braid it..after what I did to my own, there is no way I need to make others suffer..lol..it is good to have someone who knows what they are doing though...

The first time I ever tried to cut my own hair I was in high school and it was horrible. I wound up going the next day to get it fixed. Then when it finally got long enough, I would part it straight down the middle and cut the ends straight across and make a couple shorter peices around the front and that always seemed to work out ok.

I've only gone to the hairdresser once and that was coz my mom wanted to have a girls day out (which we had never done before) so we went. My hair turned out horrible.
I have fairly LONG hair (lower back) and it is curly curly curly... So yes, I now trim my own hair at home. Not that it really matters because with the curls my hair doesn't need to be cut even. I know there have been a few times I really butchered it having one said shorter than the other but nobody noticed because it's curly.
As for dying, I've been ever colour possible. I love to experiment and try different colours out. I dye my own hair and I buy the dye from a store (oh I know its bad, but meh).
I can't see how some people can pay so much money to get their hair done lol. I once went to a hair dresser just to ask how much it would cost for a dye, trim, and streaks... She looked at the length and felt the thickness and then rolled off a sum of about $80-$90. I just looked at her and said "ummm no thanks" and left.

I don't blame you for not wanting to spend that kind of money. I heard that a lot of hairdressers don't know how to cut curly hair well. I too dye my hair at home myself and I have had just about every color from green to red to black to blonde and if it turns out bad, I can just redye it.. that's how I see it. It's just hair. I got highlights at a salon once and I asked for blonde... she finished and said she decided to do them a color called "banana" I was like, why would I want my hair banana colored?! It was horrible. At least if I do it at home I only have myself to blame if it doesn't turn out and it only costs a few bucks. Thanks for the comment, your hair sounds really pretty :)

My fav. dye job that I did was Black and pink streaks (the thick chuncky ones) OR when I was a hard core Marilyn manson fan I once dyed my hair hair bright glowing white and the other half raven black (like a member of the MM band). I love that as well but, since I have dark brown hair when the white started getting roots it kind looked really funny lol so I had to redye it within 2 weeks.
I've had dreads, the real ones, and when I got sick of them I shaved my head bald....
I've loved every kind of hair I've done except the growing out part lol when my hair gets to be about 2 inches long I look too funny!

I haven't tried cutting my hair as in styling it myself or cutting off the length myself, I believe it is hard for me to do that by myself since I cannot see from the back side. But then I have cut my bangs several times, a lot of times it does turn out okay, but there was one time when Iw as watching this Korean series where I thought the woman's bangs looked so cute. And so I decided to cut my bangs the next morning, I was so excited to get it done that as I opened my eyes that was the first thing I thought of doing. And so I got out of bed and took the scissor then slashed out a length out of my bangs. Normally, I would have cut a little length off little by little until i get the desired length, but out of excitement and with the fresh out of bed condition, I did it in one cut.
And of course, it turned out a little too short than how I wanted it to be. So, I had my bangs pinned up for weeks until it grew a certain length that I thought it looked decent.. ahaha!
So never do impulse cutting... just an advice.

You're sooo right about impulse cutting.. sometimes I see a style on tv or a picture online and I say, I'd love to have my hair like that. I end up just trying to do it myself and it never turns out the same. A lot of times I'm too lazy to style my hair but I cut it in a way that requires a lot of styling for it to look right. Good thing hair grows!

I cut my own hair and yes I should not try it. Most of the time it was just my bangs, but sometimes I would trim it a little to get it back to shoulder length. My face is rather oval round -in between and when I smile, I look horrible. So I have to have my hair a certain length, too long and it is flat, too short and I look like a female version of a snowman.

Hahaha. I can relate, except I have a very round face (people are always commenting on my "round cheeks" I hate it!) so if my hair is too short, it looks even more round. "Female version of a snowman" is a good analogy!

I have a very long hair so i need to trim it every month to keep it even.my mom doesnt want me spend much on hair trimming.sOmetimes i trim my hair with the help of my mom but i was not happy as it doesnt get the look of hair trimming one gets from a beauty parlour.
My hair is not even now and hope this weekend i will be going to parlour to get it done.

Hello wooitsmolly
I did that too. Sometimes I am cut my own hair at home.
One day, I cut it too short, I really disappointed but I do that again very carefully the other time. LOL
I though that I am the only one who do that.
God bless you
