Back in the early "70's there was a revolution for women. It was called the sweater suit. There were gorgeous colors to chose from and the outfit consisted of a sweater that was long, and matching pants that were also made from the same knit material. They were dressey enough to replace a dress on a cold winter day. Under that, and many of our other clothes included in our underwear, was a girdle. This contraption was supposed to smooth out the rough edges of your figure. One night while out with friends, and wearing my girdle, which extended from just above my waist to just above my knees, I had consumed a few cocktails. Nature took it's course and I had to used the lady's room. Being slightly relaxed, and slighty bloated from the acohol, I was unable to pull my girdle back up over my knees into it's proper position. I struggled for several minutes, fighting with the extra strong elastic to no avail. My only recourse was to either throw it in the garbage or carry it out in my purse. Since the expense of buying another one was not in my budget, the only thing I could do was stuff it in my purse. I refrained from any need to go inside my purse for the rest of the night, but upon my departure from the restaurant, had to pay for my bill and it pratically leapt from it's inner sanction out onto the floor in front of several people! I was so embarassed! Do any of you remember the girdle or do any of you have any funny fashion stories?
