What do you think of the new birth control pill that stops the womans cycle?

The new pill, to be available in July, actually stops any cycle from happening at all so the woman basically never has her period. Do you think it's safe? Do you think we're defying nature? I'm kind of torn between the two ideas of good and bad. On one hand it's definitely convenient and if you're not ovulating then why have to release everything? On the other hand, nature has a certain course to follow and I wonder if altering it will have bad effects?

Oh I see good and bad with this. I could see for some women where it would be beneficial not to have a period. Ones who are in the military for example, where having their cycle might be more then just inconvienent. However I have to wonder what it would do to the body over a long time. Women's bodies are designed to have a cycle, to run it's course and begin a new each month. To get rid of that might cause other problems to happen, to throw the hormones so out of whack that the body can't handle it. I don't think I'd want to try it, even though I'd love to be rid of the monthly mess.

See, I'm like you... a bit of both. Face it, NOT having a period is attractive to any woman. LOL BUT... are we getting it at a price? I'm certain you cannot remain on them for long lengths of time, probably 3 years before they recommend going off, like they do with most birth control probably.

Oh yeah being without it would be attractive that is for sure but not sure how smart it would be. Hopefully they do limit it and women don't try to find ways around it. I could picture some doing that. Going for how ever long and then switching doctors to have it renewed.

I'm on the current pill and find that my period is a little bit of a relief. I know i'm not pregnant. Even if you use the pill correctly there is a chance that you could get pregnant and with the new pill how would you know? I don't like that idea. I don't mind the fact that it defies nature or anything like that, it's purely for convieneiance that i won't be trying it.

I have to say, when I was on the "shot" pill I didn't have periods and I loved it BUT I also, at first, had some thoughts like "How am I going to know?!". I got over that and did enjoy a much less "icky" life but I also had times when I felt like I just wanted to have a period and get the bloat down! I have to admit... if any man is shy on MyLot he will pass out with where this discussion seems to be going! LOL

It is very concerning to me. This cycle was given to us women for a reason. We were all made in the perfect way. Why do we need to try and make our bodies more convienent for our lifestyles??? It is so new - what are the side effects? Short term and long term? Way too many questions for me to even think about taking something like this.

I don't know if this is safe. Mostly I feel that way because there will be females, girls and women both, who will use it for the wrong reason. Myself, I just had a sterilet (IUD) inserted which is supposed to give me measured doses of hormones for the next 5 years and stop my period for that amount of time. This is because I was suffering from anemia from actually hemmoraging every month. My gyno said it's safer to try this before giving a hysterectomy, and I have to agree I would rather try the non surgical route first. I told him right out though, that the pill (any kind of pill) was not an option for me. I have enough oral medication for stuff now to choke a horse. I don't want another pill.

I am not sure, I am not a doctor, but if you go say for 10 or 15 years without a period and then one day ...for some reason you cna no longer use these pills...what will happen. What about these eggs..will it extend the time a woman can reproduce? But the eggs will have aged, will this mean more birth defects. Personally it is scary! But now at my age, I would welcome this cessation...permanently!

What a ludacris idea. It seems that women can't wait for menopause.

I've been on the depo provera shot for about 12 years now, with a small break in there a few years ago. It stops the cycles as well after being on it a few months. I've suffered no ill effects from it. I actually figured I'd been on it so long, there's no way I'd get pregnant...wrong :) Had my youngest daughter 18 months ago after being on it for about 10 years at the time. So the pill shouldn't be much different in my opinion from that.

is it good - NO PMS? thats gotta be good.
It is definitly very convinient and will be appreciated by a lot of women. the side effects will probably take a few years to come out. basically fiddling with nature usually leads to bad things. but no PMS will definitly be a boon to mankind.

There are good and bad to everything in life. I have been on the depo shot for 6 years and I really dont have a period, and I LOVE IT, but I am also 38 and I know for a fact that I don't want any more children. I feel that things like the shot and this new pill should not be given to anyone under the age of 18. The shot hardens your ovaries, now who is to say that if you start the shot at 14 and stay on it till you are 21, that there is no permenant damage. As far as your cycle being part of nature, what about Menopause, women do not have a cycle then, so what would be the difference. When it comes to being Preg, most women can tell and all you have to do is request a Preg. test before you get the shot or the new pill. I think that it is great to not have a period any more, no pads, no tampons, no cramps and no mood swings.

I did the depo shot too for a while and I too didn't have a period then. I suppose what you say is quite logical. Hmmmm.. now I'm really thinking! LOL Watch out.. there could be a fire!

i'm not quite sure on this one. i imagine there must be some kind of reprocussions down the road if you're on it for awhile. i do admit a break from periods after a long while would be nice, but i would worry about it a bit.

See, I think that's the problem... face it the loss of a period makes it a very sweet thing.. but to a point.

They said many many women dropped out of it after a while so I definitely think that I will let some more women test it before I do it. lol. You never know, it could be a great thing and every woman's body is different. I would just suggest getting the opinion of a doctor that you know truly cares about you. But like I said, as for me... I am glad to wait a little longer just in case.

From the way they said it, I took it as the "drop outs" were those that wanted to get pregnant then. But I could be wrong. I tend to agree... I'm just not sure about the safety either.

All I can say is I think its the absolute best idea ever... I wouldn't care what the side effects were @_@

In my opinion this pill shoudl be used if you do not want kids at all and you know that won't change or you have had kids and you don't want anymore. But for me I wouldn't use it because its scary thinkin that it could screw you insides so you can't have any kids

If I still had a period I would jump at the opportunity to take this, when I was taking the pill I would always take a few extra's so it would not interfere with my weekends or special events, but I have since not had a period in a so long and enjoy the pleasures of not dealing with it I would think it would be a good thing, especially if you did not want children again. Unsure what the benefits would be if one day you did not want to conceive again, since I would think this would mess up your entire cycle.

I thought it was only "new" to the United States and has been in effect a few years over in Europe? I know my boyfriend's mother is currently on it and it only stops menstruation for 5 years and then you do the process again. Even though I am on birth control myself, I'm still wary of doing this process because I don't want to get older and find out I screwed myself up. [and yes, I'm still paranoid with what I take now, but I take it so I can actually not be rolling on the floor in pain when I have one]

we have been "defying nature" ever since we have created tools, so i dont think that this is a big deal.

I think man is playing a dangerous game of altering the natural course of things. Even if you don't believe in God, you should be pretty impressed with the way the human body works and reproduces. It is made that way for a REASON. I have been on the pill before and it sure was convenient to stop my period when I went on vacation or had a visit from a long distance boyfriend, but really, stopping it permanantly has to do the body some type of damage. The only problem is, for now in their generic lab studies, there will be no findings and then 20 years down the road women will show up with tumors and then the damage is already done...but at least they've made a nice Buck!!
