premployment/random drug testing

i searched for discussions about this and found a few that were months old, before i was around,. so i thought i'd start my own. i happen to be against this policy 100% i feel that what people do in their own time is their business. the testing isn't fair. drugs go through your system differently. some hang on longer than others. alcohol averages 24 hrs. cocaine i believe is 3 days. marijuana can last up to 30 days. so, if i smoke 1 marijuana cigarette at a party 3 weeks ago, but haven't done any drugs or drinking since, i can fail a urine test and be disqualified for a job. now, in comes the guy who got thrown out of the bar the night before last for causing fights and being drunk and obnoxious, and he passes and gets hired. who do you think would make a better employee? maybe the guy who just came down from a week long coke binge, but has manged to stay clean for 4 days to pass the test. i know, you can give all the "but its illegal" bullcrap you want. if people didn't get hired because they have done something illegal or immoral...there wouldn't be a business in operation in this country. i can understand it if you "f" up at work and cause injury or damage something, but even doing that doesn't mean you are a druggy. i think that people who don't do drugs probably have accidents, too...don't they. or are they perfect. hmmmm. yes, i do smoke pot. i don't drink alcohol. i can't, i'm allergic, i break out in fights and blackout when i do. but i could pass a pee test the next morning. i don't do cocaine. been there, done that, still rebuilding from the destruction. but i'd have a job if i still did coke. cause i could wait three days before cooking again. have you ever tried to go without your ____________ (place addiction here) for 30 days. i guess that's all i have to say about the topic right now. more may come to mind after reading your responses. if there are any lawyers interested in fighting a tough civil rights case, contact me. ;) let me have it folks.....how do you feel about the testing policy, and my comments about them. bring it on.......
