Who doesn't like French bread. I always loved the baguettes. Though I have never been able to make french bread at home as they make it in the bakery. This recipe is the best I ever tried. You can not do anything wrong, it's a great recipe.
1 package quick action yeast
2 cups lukewarm water, divided
4 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of water. Stir mixture into dry ingredients. Stir in as much as needed from second cup of water to make a sticky dough. Use a large bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about an hour. Dough should be doubled in size. Divide into 2 greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Crust should be brown and thick.
