Have You Ever Though About Making a "Rainbow Book" about your pets?

I have had many pets in my life, mainly cats...and it's been amazing the different personalities each and every one has had....Long time ago, I got this beautiful journal...but it was too nice to write in just any old junk in it..especially my mindless ramblings...so it stayed untouched for years...Then I got the brilliant idea to use it as what I call my "Rainbow Book" If your not familiar with that beautiful essay I include it here.
So with this Rainbow Book of mine, I have added photos of my pets, I have a complete list of all my pets, when I got them, where, when they died, etc. With the photos I've added what silly little quirks that they may have had
Believe it's not an easy thing to do, especially in particular if you remember some pets more than others..as some always stick in your mind more...but I'm doing it as a fond memory and tribute to them.
So have you ever thought of making a "Rainbow Book"?
Warning: Need hankies to read this!!
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Well I'm lucky in a sense...I've been taking photos since heavens knows when...so even with my very first kitty, Babette that I got way back in 1962 I had taken her photo...so in other words ...I have an awful lot of photos!!

Oh that is a wonderful idea! Luckily my babies haven't passed away on me yet - well the pets I've owned as an adult anyway. Well you know - that's not exactly true! I had a number of dwarf hamsters that I felt dear about and well they don't live long. I think I might have to do this in the future. I think it's a great idea - and a good way to remember them by.

Oh you don't have to worry about that!!! I've got pictures and pictures and pictures of them. You would really think they were our real children. LOL
That's cool you've still got the pic of your first cat :) I bet it brings lots of fond memories back :)

Don't laugh, but sometimes looking at the old cat photos does make me a bit teary eyed--not that I didn't love all my babies...but there are some that definitely stick out and will remember more

I actually just made a similar one for my daughter, but it didn't have all of our departed pets in it. It only had our dear Meg in it, and she was very happy with it. I like your idea a lot though. I plan to make a full one here pretty soon that has the spaces in it for the cats and dogs I have now, since I don't have pictures of the ones that have already passed on.

WOW that is great ideal and if you have made a journal for your pets have you seen the site www.petster.com it is a website where you can make your pet a website of their own. the websites that people have their are so cute it is like if I was to send you to my website or blog and you can put all kinds of stuff on their profiles. Yes they have there own profile pages just like we have here. Its real cool check it out and let me know if you make your pet one so that I can go and check it out.

I do want to see Sab, my first cat. And The Doctor, I want to push him over like I used to. And Hobo, I wonder what that old guy looked like before he was a beat up wreck of a lover boy. Marco, my old softy - tho I wonder if he went to find Elaine or Jackie when he passed over since he loved them before me. I often wonder about that. I had him for several years, but he was someone else's cat first & he just adored her friend.

I love the idea of the Rainbow Book. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera most of the time. My book has the name of the pet, a description of the pet, a description of the pet personality, and anything quirky the pet did. I have wonderful memories of all my babies. And when I finally get to the Rainbow Bridge I will be greated by many pets. Thank you for posting the story of the Rainbow Bridge as I had never seen it before.

I too have had my share of great pets through the years. And unfortunatly they have to leave us. I think thats a really great idea the rainbow book. I have kept little things from each of my favorite pets like a toy that was their favorite. I have them all in a box. And like you I had mostly cats. I had only one dog and that was years ago she was a great dog. But now I just have the memories of her. I hope all our pets that have passed on are like you said at the rainbow bridge. And I hope we see them again some day.

you are so right, I have tears in my eyes after reading that, I so hope it is true! Like you I have had countless cats as pets and 1 dog, they are amazing companions who exceed people in some ways really. I have never thought of making a rainbow book, no. But I will now! x

Well that is a beautiful idea pyewacket. I don't know whether I would ever start a book, as I'm not particularly artistic or creative when it comes to things like that. but I do have a wall in my huse dedicated to photos of all the pets I have loved and lost in my life. I even have old photos there if my childhood pets from my parents' house.

I want to thank you so much. I lost my dog and best friend last year after 10 years and there is still a hole in my heart. The Rainbow Book is an excellent idea and I am also stitching the Rainbow Bridge poem in cross stitch. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Basically you have a scrapbook of your pets I love it. I have had many pets and they have all been great. Some have had more personallity than others. I have a photo album dectated to pets and I have written in them stuff about the pets.
Thansks for the poem Rainbow Bridge. I have not read the whole thing before.
I am glad you put the Author unknown. I see alot of poems and writings on mylot and a lot of people do not give the writer credit or even put down Author unknown.
Thanks again.
