Different techniques for training your dog

I have had an issue with my dog and his not following commands all the time. I put him through his first round on obedience classes and there were some times when he didn't respond as well as other times. Like when other people were around and he was distracted. Then my daughter tried the method of Alpha dog or master training. This scared him and had him occasionally peeing on the floor out of submission. I didn't feel good about that. Then I read an article on "The Dog Whisperer." I like his technique and I decided to try it. Wow! I was impressed with the immediate response I got from my dog. Instead of verbally giving him a command, I just used the hand signals. No voice, no praise, just the signal. I had to repeat the signal twice at some points but I got immediate results. I continued through the evening and while I was in the kitchen baking dog biscuits. SUCCESS!!! I am going to purchase the book. All I can say is that it works and the results are amazing! What techniques have you tried and do you have any ideas that you find are good?

Oh yes. I learned alot from the Dog wisperer. I also use hand commands and one word commands. Like if I want her in the house I say "house" and she runs to the door. If I say "pen" she goes in her pen and so on. I also taught her to wait for her food. She has to sit and wait till I fill up the food and water dish. Then I say "ok" and that means she can have it. If she tries to get out the door I say "backup" and she backs off till I say she can go out. I found one word commands work so well. Aslo she gets her praise in the evening. We spend some time loving on her and make her feel good. Shes always ready to please!!!

I cannot give enough praise to this tecnique! I also use one word commands. My dog has been through obedience classes and he responds well to hand signals. I use the word "free" to release him. His term for getting in the car is "loadup." I am so pleased with his training and the whisperer method really is the icing on the cake.

In the past I used food as a way to train my dog. I successfully trained him how to sit. I think this is a very useful method.
