Whatever Operating System (OS) you prefer, I know you like it and enjoys whatever benefits it gives you. But defend your answer whether you prefer Windows over Macintosh, or the other way around. I'd like to hear some comments, especially from Mac users since I use Windows as my OS!

I am currently using windows xp and I am getting a vista laptop soon. Obviously I prefer windows. But I also like to use mac. It is not true that windows always crashes and mac does not because I have both windows and mac at school and I can tell you that the mac computers always crash and fail to respond unlike the windows computers at school. I do like working on mac however since it utilizes ram much better than windows which is a resource gulper. That is why I am getting 2 gb ram with my new laptop. I hope to convert to mac in a few years since I like work on it but there are too many reasons for me to stay with windows now.

Wow, I envy you that you'll gonna buy a laptop soon. Same here, the difference is that I want a laptop but can't buy. Lol. I also prefer Windows, although the disadvantage is the numerous compatible viruses.

It may be that more viruses are made for windows, but it all depends on you. I know i had problems with viruses time ago, but since my computer knowledge improved, i didn't have any virus for years now. There are just a few rules you have to follow to protect yourself from them. First rule is not to use IE, ever. Not even to check one website. Also, don't use the microsoft mail software either. For browsing the net i use Opera, and for the email i use gmail. The only thing left to do is to watch out you don't run a virus yourself, from an attacment of a fake email (open only the emails you trust). From these few rules alone, you'll avoid most, if not all of the viruses. Also keep your computer up to date with updates and it should work fine.

both the operating systems have their own afvantages and disadvantages. windows is user friendly and used most widely and compatible with all the softwares which are available in the market but MAC has less errors in it and it never corrupts and there are much lesser viruses for MAC as compared to windows. but i think windows is the best because it isa used most widely

I think so too. Mac is good for viral protection since most viruses are made especially for Windows because based on what you said, Windows is compatible and most widely used. But what OS are you using right now?

It may depend on the user. Anyone with little or no desire to learn how to maintain a machine would be better off with a Mac. Advantages of obscurity and a tougher shell design effectively minimize the threat of malware, although the threats are still present. Also, since Mac users are limited in software choices and especially in hardware (Mac parts are soldered into place), it's not quite as easy to screw up Mac OS. Windows tends to be easier to use, but also much more prone to problems. When you install or uninstall a program, registry entries are often misplaced or left behind, causing system instability. There are plenty of registry cleaners available, but most of them are too aggressive and can actually make problems worse (If you want to use one, use EasyCleaner). The hard disk should also be defragmented occasionally. Security seems to be the major thing these days that prompts migration to a non-Microsoft OS. What most users don't know, however, is that security software does exist that can make Windows just as tough as Mac or Linux. A firewall with IPS (Intrusion Prevention Systems) covers most of it, though I still recommend antivirus and antispyware with automatic updates, scheduled scanning, and real-time monitoring (AV should also have POP scanning if you use an e-mail program like Outlook). You can also lock the core, but this wouldn't be necessary for the average user. As it has already been stated, Windows supports far greater versatility, with virtually limitless possibilities in software and hardware. And the worst part (to me) about using a Mac is, not only are you stuck with what you get when you get it, you're already behind; after all, the fastest PCs are considerably faster than the fastest Macs! :P
