Thare are many things that happen withion thge body when depression occurs. It is not only a feeling, but a disease that is often caused by an imbalance of chemicals within the brain. Is it avoidable? Is there a way to cure depression?

I agree that depression can be overcome in many instances, but it isn't easy. A change in situation is sometimes needed, as is help such as therapy/talking and sometimes medication. It can take a lot of time and work but it can be worked through. There are situations where it's purely chemical and I don't think those can be "overcome" permanently, but through treatment they can at least be managed.

As a therapist, I have consulted with many people with depression. Sometimes it's just a case of them feeling worthy in life. By beginning to do things successfully and with concentration and experiencing the satisfaction of being creative. At other times, I've discovered that my client doesn't do any physical exercise or activity and brisk daily walking or a regular visit to the gym helps. There are other types of hormonal imbalances though, like post-natal depression and this needs medical investigation. I have often worked with clients that are also receiving medical treatment. There is no one answer that suits everybody, and various remedies may need investigating. What is most important is to approach a friend/relative you can trust and speak to them, asking them for their support if you get low and don't want to try anything. Keeping a journal, writing down all feelings and thoughts exactly how they are can also help to release inner discontent.

I don't think there is a cure for it, but it can be treated without medication. Have you ever heard of biofeedback? Through biofeedback I've learned to cope with stress and depression better and it really helps. If you'd like more information, add me as a friend and I'll send you a PM about it. ~Kythe42 http://lemurianphoenix.blogspot.com
