I am always fasinated with the changing of the serpent in history. Once the snake/dragon was held in high reguard, then over time in many cultures that changed. The python of Gaia was slayed by Apollo and he took control of her Oracle at Delphi. Neith, an Egyption goddess whose icon was a snake became Athena who has many negative associations with serpents from Medusa to her child whom held a snake form and causes insanity. And we can't forget the serpent in Judao/Christian history being demonized. Astarte, the Queen of Heaven mentioned in the Bible and worshipped by early Jewish peoples was sometimes called a snake-faced Goddess. I could go on, but I don't want to write a book. Is anyone else fasinated by the role of the serpent? I have heard many theories as to why this negative changed occured but I would love to hear if anyone here has a theory of their own. I've been slightly writing on it in my blog, I just have 2 parts up and it is looking to be a huge discussion of many parts. I would love anyone else's thoughts on this. http://moonlightfaith.blogspot.com
