Broken Things (a devotional)

I thought I would share this with you guys. It has given me comfort lately. This article is taken from "Our Daily Bread" "Few unbroken lives in this world are useful to God. Few men and women can fulfill their hopes and plans without some interruption and disappointment along the way. But man's disappointments are often God's appointments, and the things we believe are tragedies may be the very opportunities through which God chooses to exhibit His love and grace. We have but to follow these lives to the end to see that people who have been broken become better and more effective Christians than if they had carried out all their own plans and purposes. Are you, my friend, being broken today? Has the dearest thing in your life been torn away? Then remember that if you could see the purpose of it all from God's standpoint, you would praise the Lord. The best things that come to us are not those that accrue from having our way, but by letting God have His way. Though the way of testing and trial and sorrow often seems hard and cruel, it is the way of God's love and in the end will be the best for us. Remember, we have the Lord's promise: "No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly" (Psalm 84:11). —Mart De Haan Then trust in God through all thy days; Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand; Though dark thy way, still sing and praise, Sometime, sometime, we'll understand. —Cornelius For a Christian, wholeness always comes after brokenness."

it is only natural that we suffer from disappointments and disillusionments anytime of our lives. it is how we carry ourselves through it that matters. whenever we fall, let us just pick ourselves up. if we can do it by ourselves, tehn there is no reasn at all why we have to wait for somebody else to do it for us. life is always a struggle and nothing can change it. it was how it was meant to be naturally. and no man can ever effect a change towards the positive side on what has been there right from the start.

I like that "It is how we carry ourselves through it that matters" and this is where we often fall. They said that God will never give us problems that we can't handle although I don't want to say that it's God who gives us those hurdles. He just allows us to pass through them and He knows our limit and He will never push us beyond our limit.

Yes there is a lot to support that our trials and tribulations make us stronger, but there are some people who do not make it through, they either have a complete breakdown or get bitter and mean as well.

I do agree with you, WinterRose, and I feel sorry for them. I myself sometimes feel that I couldn't make it through but thanks to family and friends who pray for me.

This is very inspiring. I will send this to a friend. Some of us when confronted with so many trials after another, question God and ask why me? We do not know that these things, problems happen truly for a reason and with that will make us a better person. Of course when you are the one facing trouble you would not be thankful at the time, you just need patience for in the end it is for your own goodness. Thanks for sharing this.

Sure, Sophie, you can send it to anyone you wish. I pray that anyone who receives this will be inspired like you.
