Has anybody heard any more about taking Avandia and if it is causing more heart disease for those of us taking it? I am talking about the article I read in USAToday about there us being 43% more likely to get heart disease from taking this medicine. What are you doing about it? Have you asked your Dr.? Should we still be taking it?

I heard about it just today and I just got concerned because my doc also has prescribed that medicine but she gave half the tablet once daily. I hope it would not affect me that much since I only take about 2mg daily. Since my blood glucose had been under control with avandamet she decided to have metformin be removed from my medication and gave me avandia instead.

What I heard is to ask your doctor. I take other medicine for my diabetes, but with other medicine I take for other things, I will always be watching their interactions. The reports I heard are very vague and is one report in many, and they say they are going to do more testing and check them against the results already reported. One point I have always questioned about reports like this, 43% of what. Does it mean that 43% of the people who use avandia will have problems or is it 43% more then what is already suspected. So if 2 out of 1000 people are projected does that mean 432 or 3 people. If it was deemed an acceptable risk, then it is likely less then a very low percentage, maybe even below 1% or .1% so if it is 1% it goes from 10 to 14 people. It is a larger risk but is it still an acceptable risk considering how many may die without the medicine.
