Old wives tales were made up years ago by people who did not know any better or were not educated and were passed down through families through the years . Most of them we are able to know for sure that there is no truth to them but if you were always told something you would still think it to be true and wouldn't know any different so weather or not we believe any or not would be hard to know unless we found out that what we were believing in was not true . For example I always believed that if you ate the batter from a cake mix before it was cooked that it would give you worms because this is what my mother had always told us growing up . Now as an adult I realize it is not true but did believe this to be true for many years and would never allow my children to eat the batter when I was making a cake .

They are funny though when you really think about some, you think how on earth did they come up with that.

No, I don't really believe in any old wives tale. I just do it to humor my mom. She's like a fan of those old wives tale. She gets mad at me whenever I don't do as what she says, she thinks I'm tempting fate or something.

they are not made up, they are based on what the older generations actually believed. There is usually a story behind every single one of them.

My mom use to tell me when I was a kid that if I ate cookie dough, I would get worms in my tummy. LOL! I don't think it's true. I believe it is an old wives tale. Although she still says you can get worms. I just laugh at her.

What like if you make a face at someone and the wind changes direction your face will stick like that? Don't you believe in them Calais? I live my life according to them honestly.....not. As for who makes them up - old wives obviously - D'uh! Well they would be very old wives if they were still alive - most of these have been around for so many years! xxx

Apparently some physicians believe it is just an old wive's tale that people can feel the change of coming weather in their bones. I believe you can. Then you get into wacky territory, like don't swallow that gum or a bubble gum tree is going to grow in your stomach. I must have heard that a million times when I was little.

The weather change is the only one that I believe, because I feel it all the time. And the bubble gum one...lol. I used to swallow because I did want a bubble gum tree.
