Does anyone else out their seem to get sick when they start their period? It seems like if there is something going around and I start my cycle, I catch whatever it is. I asked the doctor why this happened, and he says it is just coincedence. Has anyone else experienced this? I find it hard to believe that it is just by chance that I get a cold, flu, etc. whenever my period starts.

I've noticed this as well. Not sure if I'm sick or my allergies are worse but when my cycle starts I'm usually not feeling well. I have cold like symptoms. I think it's more then a coincidence but not sure what the cause is. If it's due to the immune system being low, added stress, hormonal changes, your guess is as good as mine but I think there is more going on then the doctor wants to admit.

I think it causes my immune level to go on vacation! I've asked 2 doctors about this now and both said it shouldn't affect a person this way. They both told me to take more vitamins. LOL I already do, and it doesn't make a difference.

I talked with my sister on this and she's known many women to have this happen. I think it's more then mere coincidence. Not sure what it is but it has to be. Maybe doctors just don't want to figure it out?

Yes I do get sick every time my menstrual is approaching. Actually my premenstrual syndrome is not fixed to a specific pattern. Sometimes I get sick before getting my period and sometimes I fall sick in the middle of my period and sometimes after the period. But yes I feel so sick and tired. I get moody as well and I get mad at my husband pretty easily. My body aches and my legs hurt, with my back hurting as well. At times the fatigue gets so serious that all I could do was lie down and nothing else.

Hi. gypsylady28. I have been sick when my menstrual cycle came on, yes. In January, I ended up getting the Stomach Virus and my menstrual cycle came on, I then was in pain from my menstrual cycle, then I was also sick with the Flu. I believe our bodies are weak and we are more sensitive to contracting germs and bacteria, that will lead to our illnesses.

*Yes I do! People suggest that it's your imagination; that your cycle has nothing to do with your immune system, or that you're just eating too much of the wrong foods during PMS. I did some brainstorming because I know that not to be true. My eating patterns is the only thing that DIDN'T change about my cycle over the years. For the past year I have been catching a cold every time I come on. So I did some brainstorming, and realized that it's the low iron that's breaking down my immune system. Which is brought on by my period. So inadvertently it is your menstrual cycle that weakens your immune system. When I started taking iron, and multi-vitamins there was a drastic difference! Talk to your doctor about what is safe for you to take, and try it.

YEARS! For years I have been dealing with this EVERY MONTH! I am sooooooo tired of it! I take copious amounts of Vit C, zinc, acidopholis, and netty potting. I sleep, watch my diet and get lots of exercise. I, on paper, should be very healthy. But every month, here it comes all over again. I have talked to my allergist, obgyn, ent, gp, and chiropractor. All of them tell me it is in my head and I know it is not! Where or where is Dr. OZ?!?!

I think the immune system goes down during this. I know I'm more tired when I'm on my period, so I think that makes it easier to catch things. I also lose my apetite, so I'm not getting as many nutrients, but when I'm pmsing I'm raiding the fridge all day lol.
