What was the biggest thing you killed?

Most of us have killed little bugs like ants, mosquitos, flies, etc, but have you killed anything bigger than that? Years ago, I saw a bug that somehow got into the apartment I was living at. I had been home alone that day and seeing it stare at me scared the living daylights out of me. I grabbed something to smash it and it took a few tries to kill it. Oh how grossed out I was when doing this. EWWWW! At that time I didn't find out what it was, but a few years later after my husband and I married he had showed me a bug that looked just like the one I killed a few years back, except this one was small and white. The one I killed was BIG and green. My husband told me what it was...a Praying Mantis. He said they are harmless and even let this little one walk on him. Seeing this bug brought back those memories of smashing that other one. I felt horrible for killing a bug that is so harmless that I couldn't even tell my husband what I did until a few years later. He was amazed that the Praying Mantis was as big as it was, but he said he didn't blame me for being freaked out and killing it since it was the first one I encountered and I didn't know what is was. Here's a link to pictures of praying mantis' in case you want to see what one looks like. :P http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4TH/KKHP/1INSECTS/mantispix4.html So, what was the biggest thing you ever killed?

I use to drive to work really early in the morning. About 3:30 in the morning. I live in a small town about 30 minutes away from work so I would use country road to travel back and forth to work. One morning on my way to work a bunny ran out in front of me. I tried to swerve to miss it but unfortunatly I hit the poor thing. I felt so guilty. I wish I had seen it in time to miss the poor little thing.

This is one of the reasons I don't like to drive when it's dark. It makes it so hard to see these little critters on the road...

You know when you are killing kitchens and all other farm animals thay produce so called fear hormones, and they are really harmfull. That's the reason for killing them by electricity in the farms.

I think Mantis are interesting to watch and are helpful from what I'm told but I wouldn't want one walking on me - I don't kill them though. Hate to say it but the largest thing I've ever killed was a chipmunk. It ran across the road in front of me and didn't make it. I drove home but didn't drive for several weeks after that happened.

Since learning what they are I can watch them whenever I see one now. I've even had little ones walk on me, but that was too freaky for me so I let them go. Poor little chipmunk. I don't blame you for not being able to drive after it happened. I probably wouldn't either if I were to run over something like that...

Poor mantis.. I used to catch them and play with them before I return them back in our garden. The biggest thing I killed was a snake. Well I wasn't really the one who actually killed it, our helper did using the plastic head of a mop. I was part of the killing because I was the one who told her to use the mop. I did tell her though to use it to scoop the snake and bring it outside. I didn't think that she'd get out of control and start hitting the snake's head so many times..

I still feel bad about what I did all those years ago. It took me some time after my husband told me what they were for me to be able to hold one or two that were babies, but I still got squeamish from it, and I didn't let them walk on me very long. Don't worry, I didn't harm them. I just set them down and they were free to go. That's gross about the snake. That reminds me a little of one of my cousins and his ex-BIL (both grown men). My mom and I had gone to visit my aunt (my mom's sister) several years back. My cousin had mentioned they were going fishing, and invited my mom and I to go along. Before we left to go fishing my cousin had mentioned something about hitting the fish over a rock, but I thought he was full of it so I ignored him. Unfortunately he wasn't full of it and this was how he and his ex-BIL killed the fish they caught. It's one thing to want to put something out of it's misery, but they acted like it was great fun. It could have been that they were showing off because their little cousin (me, who was 17 at the time) was there looking horrified at what I saw. Okay, so I only saw a glimpse as I turned around FAST to look away, but I could still hear what was going on...

I've never killed any large animals but I have had to kill large bugs. Last summer we had to kill a vinegaroon; a large scorpion-like bug that lets off a sour, vinegar-like smell when attacked. I'd attach a link but I just joined myLot yesterday so I have less than 500 posts. Oh well, maybe someday I can update this. Interesting question though!

You got my curiosity going so I looked up vinegaroon. Here is a link that I found: http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/M-giganteus.html All I can say is that I wouldn't want to be near a vinegaroon! They look scary!!!

Why did you have to kill it? Was it poisonous or do you just not like spiders? I don't care for spiders, but the only ones I kill are the poisonous ones, like black widows if I see any around the house. I live in the boonies and there tend to be a lot of them. Yuck!

the biggest thing i have ever killed was cockroaches in my kitchen. Ususally i am not that kind of person to kill someone who's part of nature. For example if i see sny bug on the street i can't make my self stem on it. it's a part of nature, and it'll make me feel bad, but sometimes not though.

I've killed a chicken. Several. It was the norm growing up in Nigeria. You went to the market, picked your chicken and killed it when you were ready (I mean, we weren't exactly gonna eat it live, were we?!! - that would have been way way way too sushi for me). It's different in the western world - they do all that for you. We, on the other hand, got to do what the farmers do over here. We saw what a lot of people over here don't see - kinda like a film - most of the time, you see the finished product - you hardly see the mess & drama that leads to the film making its debut. Same goes for 'westernised' chicken - all you see is the polite version - skin as hairless as a model's legs in a razor advert - so devoid of blood, you wouldn't think it ever lived. Anyway, having lived in England for some time now, I don't think I'd be able to kill one now, but I'm grateful for both experiences/perspectives. Browneyed.

by hand? on purpose? The biggest by hand was probably just a spider or something. I hit a possum with my car once. It happened to be pregnant and when i got out to look i saw the fetus's spread all over the road :( And i think I hit a dog once. It was dark out and icy and i was going around a turn and there was something sitting on the road. it didn't move at all and made a thump. but we didn't find a body or any blood on my car so we aren't sure if i hit it or not.
