fast food and kids

Don't you think it is bad that fast food restaurants gear their commercials towards kids, such as McDonalds? The food is so not healthy and should only be eaten once in a while as a treat, as far as I am concerned but the fast food places make that nearly impossible. Almost all 2 yr olds know exactly what McDonalds, even if they have never been there. The commercials make it look like such a cool place with lots of fun and great food but really, most of them are dirty, and the food is unhealthy. Like I said, I think it is a good place for maybe once a month as a treat for being good or if you are out all day and hungry. I can't stand to hear about people that eat fast food like 5 times a week, especially when kids are involved. What do you all think about fast food and its evil way of pulling our kids in? How often do you eat fast food? Do you go there with your kids for a treat or a more often for a meal?

It's the job of advertizers to get people interested in their product, not to tell parents what is best for their kids. If parents aren't willing to tell their crying kids, "NO", that isn't anyone's fault but the parents'.

I'm just saying there is nothing "evil" about the ways they try to pull kids in.

I think anything in moderation, even fast food, is fine. It becomes a problem if your kid will only eat fast food. Unfortunately, some kids become so dependent on it that the parents feed (literally and figuratively) their kid's fast food fix. Thankfully, with little kids the habit is easy to break. It's when they become teenagers that a real problem arises, especially if that child has become obese. Personally, I rarely eat fast food and if I'm in a food court, I try to pick the healiest choice. As for my own kids, they both have their favorites, but only once or twice a week and that's it.

I think fast food is horrible for kids. Most off the kids now a days have overweight. Fast food is a big problem. We eat fast food only a few times a year and then as a treat. You can't live on meals like that. The commercials are made for childeren. They want childeren to see them and ask their parents to go there. Also the toys they give away make them wanna go.

We got to mass at five o'clock on Saturdays. We decided that instead of coming home at six and starting a meal, we would go to McDonald's. It was also our way of getting the children to behave in church. We have actually NOT gone when they have misbehaved, or have bought only for some and not others. It is more out of convenience. However, I have come to like my Crispy Chicken Sandwich and hate missing it. I do not order the meal. I don't eat fries or drink pop. I just have the sandwich. I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and sometimes this meal can affect me badly, other times it doesn't affect me at all. I'll be darned if I know why. It seems when we eat in the restaurant, I have to put the pedal to the metal to get home in time to make it to the bathroom. But if we go through the drive-thru and eat at home, I don't have a problem. I cannot figure out why that is. I know it's not the healthiest of food but it's better than a bowl of sugary cereal for dinner, or waffles covered in syrup, which is what they tend to eat ALL the time now.

i think that moderation is the key. you shouldnt avoid it but i know some people that let their kids eat it more than once or twice a week. maybe your stomach cant handle the excessive grease. and it is filled with trans fat which in itself is another problem.

Frankly, I think it might be the mayo. But it still doesn't explain why it happens some days and not others. Probably just the unpredictability of the illness.

I do not like Mcdonalds food but my teen age children like it. Moreso they even give toys with some particular type of food and those toys are also liked by the kids. So once in 1 1/2 months or so we go to Mcdonalds.

I agree I think its ok once in awhile but not all the time. My oldest brother used to take his kids to McDonalds all the time but has cut back alot. I think cooking them even the same foods at home would be healthier and more sanitary. LIVE IN PEACE

It doesn't really bother me because in the end it is the parents' decision. A 2 year old can't walk to a McDonald's and order a Happy Meal on his own. Only a parent can get it for him so if they don't want their kids eating it they don't have to buy it for them. We live about 3 blocks from a McDonalds but my kids have only been there about 4 times (all this year as a treat). We went yesterday and they each got a caramel sundae. I bought the baby a 4piece chicken nugget (since she hadn't had lunch) and I got a small Shrek shake and a large ice tea for us to share. It was just something fun for us to do. They ask to go all the time but that doesn't mean I have to take them. Most of their friends have every toy ever made that came in a Happy Meal of Burger King Kid's meal. My kids have like 5 each and I tend to toss them in the Thrift Store bin I have when I find them laying around. I do take them to Subway a lot to get a sandwich and juice. They love Subway.

I've noticed their commercials air during kids television time. My son isn't old enough to where he goes "I want that" with everything he sees on television. I've noticed that a lot of fast food joints are changing their kids menu, so you can get fruit instead of fries. But I think a lot of bad food companies, like sugary cereals, 10% juice brands, and snack food also gear their commercials towards children too.

I've read an article before about the kind of stuffs that are found in McDonald's McBurger...and it really made me sick... It's very unhealthy and disturbing. After reading the article, I don't want to eat at McDonalds anymore. I think it's better to tell your kids that fast foods restaurants sell unhealthy foods. You need to explain it to them so they might understand why it's not good for them.

I used to eat fast food all the time and I ballooned to over 230 pounds ( I am only 5'8"). I have started eating more healthy and working out and now my weight is a much more reasonamble 168. I did this all in the span of 6 months. One thing that has been totally out for me is fast food. I will not let my kids eat this anymore as I have seen what it has done to me. cheers,

first of all i wud like to say that i love to eat junk foods but thats only once a week..fast foods r spicy which can cause health problems specially for the kids..but i think once a week or even a month if we take fast foods that wud not be danger rather it wud give new tastes which wud be obviously differnt from the daily health conscious foods..commercials wud alweys try to enhance their profit by incresing their sale..the kids sud be properly guided not to follow those commercials..

ya i do think so. Fast food contains imbalanced dietary components which are not good for kids and hence they can't be considered as good meal for kids.
