How do you spend time with your kids?

For us it's family night. We can watch a movie, play a board game, play games outside or do a craft. We set a side one night that focuses on what the kids want to do. More often than not our lives get full and we tend to let the kids play on there own. So a family night for us works. We promised out kids tha we could devote one night for just them. That includes them pickin the dinner. They feel spcial and we don't feel guilty the rest of the week when we are too tired to do anything but make dinner, get bathes, help with homework. What do you do to spend time with your kids?

My son is a toddler so he doesn't have the attention span to sit down that long yet. But we do go out and about to do things outside our home, like the parks, special classes, and shopping. I also get down on the floor to his level and push cars around, build legos, and read books.

We are very similiar to you as trying to set one night a week as family night. My older kids 15 & 18 are not into this anymore, but we still offer it to them and we do something with our 13 & 6 yr old. Last week we played Family Fued! Girl won! The other night we took our 6 yr old and 15 yr old out for hotdogs and then ice cream. It is very important to try to spend quality family time together. As the kids get older and the activities become more demanding, it is very hard.

Unless there's a ton of yard work to do or errands to run, we try to do something "quality" on a nightly basis. We eat dinner together no matter what, then we follow it up by giving them a choice between watching a movie or playing board games. After school is reserved for craft, reading and writing time. The kids generally only watch about one hour of TV per day, so they rarely pick a movie because it doesn't really seem to interest them. As the weather improves, we're going to start "Field Trip Friday" and other things like that.

Right now it feels like everymoment is spent with my kids. My husband is working 2 jobs by choice, so it is just them and me. I always feel i am doing double duty as both parents. At least once a week we watch a new movie together. We are supposed to be having family night as a regular set aside day, but life gets in the way. Liek you mentioned above. I just value the time now, because as we all know once they get older, we wil see less of them.

Both my daughters are school going and its me who gets to spend more of the time with them as compared to my husband. As there are commitments to be fulfilled on the study front i spend a good amount of time with them to see that they are studing well and understanding what has been taught to them at school. Apart from this we watch tv together and play and indulge in extra curricular activities like learning to play music for which a teacher has been engaged by me. We do some excercises, yoga and spend time dancing together to keep ourselves fit. On weekeds we make it a point to take them out for dinner at whatever place they feel like.

When I was little, our family would spend time together at dinner, and sometimes on weekends. By the time my sister became a teenager she wanted to do her own thing. Mom and Dad divorced eventually, and we spent time with eachother and with our parents, individually.

I spend a lot of time with my son everyday, since I stay home with him. But as far as spending time as a family, we eat dinner together every night, unless my husband is working 14 hour shifts. When it is nice out, we take the dogs for a walk. Our son really enjoys it, and of course it is good for everyone. We let him pick what he wants for dinner (within reason) 1 or 2 times a week. And as he is getting older, he is getting where he wants us both to play cars with him, so we try to do that at least twice a week, too.

We do family night once a week. Our kids are still young but we want to make sure we are trying to keep the lines of communication open before they get to old and dont want anything to do with us. I had a pretty good relationship with my parents and I am hoping the same for my kids.

My kids and I spend time together by playing outside, watering the yard, coloring, watching movies (though this is rare), cuddling, and running errands together. I'm sure there are other things we do together, but it's almost midnight and I can barely remember anything as I am falling asleep typing this! LOL

I spend time with my child daily, reading, going to the park, doing exercises (my son is physically delayed so we do a lot of physical therapy work) and just playing. I work nights generally but I'm off on Wednesday and Thursday. We use those as "family date nights" and go shopping, go out to eat, and sometimes just go for a drive. It's interesting seeing what everyone does as a family; this is a good question!
