Problem: My HP printer is giving blank printouts.

I was printing .txt files from notepad suddenly it started giving blank printouts. I tried cleaning the cartridges (both automatic and manual) but to no avail. (Please note that my printer has 1 black and 1 colored cartridge of which the colored is empty and the black is a new cartrige just a few days old. With this same setting i was getting nice printouts on notepad .txt files but suddenly the printer started giving blank printouts.) I also tried to align the 2 cartridges but it didnot allow saying "Only one print cartridge is installed in the printer. Alignment is not necessary." But earlier when both cartridges where filled it never gave such a message. In 'configuration tab' on the 'Toolbox' under the heading 'configure print cartridges' its showing -"One color print cartridge" after setting the configuration on factory settings. The major problem being "Blank printouts as stated above rest everything is as before." Is it that the Black cartridge is somehow jammed or clogged or not giving out ink for some reason. Note: its a new cartridge anyways. I have also tried -printing test pages -giving print command from different sofware programs as word/notepad/excel -reinstalling the complete printer software after uninstalling it. but to no avail. Please suggest what to do.
