Free hosting or Paid Hosting?

Hey people,
What do you think? What would you do? Most people prefer Free hosting over paid hosting, however, for few teenagers who don't really have the cash for paid hosting, prefer free hosting. Though I believe paid hosting is a better choice, free hosting isn't that bad either! There are some n00bish sites which should be avoided, while there are several good free hosting sites which can be taken.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post links to websites, so avoiding it. If I'm allowed to, let me know I'll post a link to a good site that I would suggest.

I also want to start a site of my own. But since I do not prefer free hosting, I am waiting till I get enough money for that. Actually free hosting is not very bad, but all efforts, designing, and reputation goes in vain, when suddenly one day the free hosted site, just vanishes because of any problem with the host. One friend suggested me, never to go for free hosting, if I can wait some months to begin my own site. Also a free hosted site doesn't shows up in the major search engines. That is a big disadvantage, which restricts the popularity of the site.

paid hosting is better than free hosting, the service, features, uptime, support technical and so on, you can get start from $1/month, why using free hosting? if you can get all good stuff less than $1/month?
free hosting not good for running your own website or business,people know if you using free hosting and is not legit front their eye.
