How much authority do you give your parents over your life?

In India, parents make a lot of decisions for their children - like who they will marry, where they will work, etc.
But the trend has changed in recent years with children making more of their own decisions. But parents do sometimes feel that they have more experience over us and can guide us better.
But sometimes guidance becomes dominance. How much of an authority would you be willing to give to your parents over your life?

I did not feel it is an obligation to listen to my parents once I became an adult. I judged their advice as I would the advice of anyone else, if I felt it had merit I adopted it, if not, I didn't. Our son is well into adulthood, I do not expect him to follow my advice, I only wish that he considers mine as he would anyone else with similar experiences. I do not expect him to do as I say, but rather what he and his wife feel is correct for the two of them. I do not wish to have authority over another adult.

Absolutely none! I value my parents opinion and will go to them for advice but the ultimate decision will be mine. I will only ask them for advice they will not tell me what to do or try to make the decision for me. I am a very independant person. I was brought up that way. I tend to do everything for myself and hardly ever rely on others.

Thank you for your response. Im pretty independent minded myself but sometimes feel i have to listen to ym parents out of obligation (coz they've done so much for me).

Wow..I guess im too rebellious to give them a 100% control. its like every step Im fighting them for something or the other even though i absolutely love them.
