Religion should be erased from existence

I myself am not a believer of any religion.However i want to know WHY and what drives people to believe in religions.In my opinion, religion serves no other purpose than to elude simple-minded people to have them think there is hope for whatever they believe in.Tell me what you think about this, and dont hold back, honest answers please.

Like you I have no religion and do not really understand why people seem to need it. I sometimes think it's because this life is so bad for them and they see no way of making it better that the only way they can see out of the situation is to believe that things will be better when they die.

Now this is an answer i can somewhat relate to.
it is a proven fact that people who have a crappy life, just about always turn to "faith".
