Cameras Being Placed On Shores Where People Online Can Watch

Thats right. Talk about no privacy anymore. As summer hits, people are going to start heading out down the shore. However, they are now placing cameras at your local beaches where people online can click to get a view on who is on the shore. Point Pleasant, Wildwood, and Seaside Heights are just a few beaches that have cameras on the beach. Talk about Big Brother Always Watching LOL. You can go to NJ.com where users online can click, zoom, copy, and paste who they want to see at the shore. So I ask this, how do you feel about cameras being placed on beaches where people can view online?

Well, technically, the beach is a public place, so you have no real "expectation of privicy" which is how the law judges where it is okay and not okay to place cameras. Since you can be seen by hundreds of people on the beach anyway, you don't expect bo be able to really have privicy anyway, regardless of the cameras being there. I do thnk it is a little much that users can zoom and turn the cameras, and I'm not really sure waht the real benifit of having those internet "tourist cams" is, since they are not recorded or monitored by authorties. It is just a promotional tool to try and get people to take trips to the beaches.

Yes, I agree that a beach is a public place but the reason why I emphasize this topic is because that I do not understand what the benefits are for internet cams to be viewed by people online. I guess it is some promotional tool to get people to take trips to the beaches. However, this promotional tool is taking it a bit too far.

I think it is for safety reasons, but I can certainly see how this can be considered as an act of privacy invasion. I am afraid it is the price we pay in an aggressive society. More atttempts to create safety simply leads to less privacy. The two go hand in hand. This will also lead to a portion of the population who will use this for their own personal gain. cheers

I do agree that this is an opportunity for people to use it for their own personal gain.

Well, I have no problem if someone watches me when I'm on the beach...but maybe who looks at me could feel fear watching my face...Lol!

I think we don't have privacy. It is very disappointing. Knowing that more and more bad guys are around is so sad. I hope they can be stopped. Welcome to mylot!

Atleast in PBB participants know and very much aware about the presence of the cameras. They know they dont have privacy unlike us. If somebody invades our privacy as if it was a crime or someone being betrayed.

True people in the beach are aware of the cameras that are located on the beach but they are not aware of the fact that anyone online can see them. This is where I believe the authorities have crossed the line. Its one thing to do it for safety reasons, and another to do it for something else.

Cameras placed at a public beach i'm fine with. Cameras placed and ogled over by internet perves i'm much less enamored of. I certainly hope the cameras have no sound or id certainly sue. Sadly otherwise there is no legal recourse. you can film anyone you want as long as you give prior warning and such, and they accept. i.e. the beach has cameras enetering means viewing. this i a major invasion of privacy.
