Is it time to ban food from China

*I think it started with our furry friends getting the poisoned food and it was something from China. *Then I heard we got some fish via Canada and it came from China and was causing problems. *Now I heard something about tootpaste from China going to Australia or someplace that contained brake fluid or other car fluids. *THen I read something this morning about not eating Monk Fish from China. It just seems to me that until we can feel safer in knowing that our food from China is safe, that we should ban it all together. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Am I over-reacting? We did ban beef from England due to Mad Cow, personally this is even worse.

food can be poisoned enywhere in the world if it is not preserved properly if or not it is vegetarian or nonvege.the main thing is to find out poisoned food as quickly as possoble and destroy it in anywhere in the world.

Debs-place,that is because you have paid much more attention to China's bad news than anyother countries. because poisonouse can be found everywhere ,but you just post China here,do you know what kind influence you will make?

It does seem to me there are more and more problems with the food we are bringing into the country. I'm all for 'made in America' and follow through with 'grown here', 'produced' and whatever else.

That is something we should all consider. I for one am going to start checking packaging much more thoroughly to find out where my food is coming from.

it will be wise to adopt this policy by ourselves. the only problem here is, what if we pick by mistake or unknowingly, a product which is made or imported from china? this is really a problem of some magnitude. the implications are too much. unscrupulous businessmen can easily do some foul play here. and the next problem is, it usually takes time before they are uncovered carrying out these illegal activities. but at least if we are careful at all times, the risk is very much trimmed down.

As harsh as that may be to their economy, it seems like the most logical choice. It would be pretty simple to start purchasing goods after they have set into place a quality assurance for all their products. We have the same quality here of QA. I believe that anything purchased from other countries should have the same standard.

Exactly and we can not depend on the Chinese food supply to be of the quality that we expect. As was pointed out to me in earlier posts, these things can happen anywhere and when it happens we clamp down on it, if it is American lettuce or Mexican somethings or groud beef. A lot of Chinese food seems to have problems the past few months and this concerns me, it is a weak link in our supply system.

Yes we should ban it . I cant understand why it isn't already banned. I don't think they have really even found out what the cause of the dog and cat food problems are. First it was one thing then another. I don't think you are overreacting at all. Thanks for the discussion.

We all know that money is the bottom line, I guess when our policy makers are affected directly by tainted foods, then something will happen.

i think you are over-reacting. you have your view of the important overshadowed by trivial. i am Chinese, and i eat Chinese food everyday ,and so healthy now. you should not have this feeling just by some so-called unauthorized news. Chinese diet culture has gone through more than 5,000 years ,it will not be denied just by so few so-called faults. my opinion. as Chinese.thank you .

Poison Bottle - Poison bottle
Well I don't think she is over reacting at ALL. It is the truth. I suppose next you will be saying that the Chinese don't skin cats then use the fur as fake fur under the disguise of being goat, sheep and other hair. I have seen the movies and read the articles . It is cruel. Americans need to know this, we don't want to bury our head in the sand while you do these things. EVERYONE should be made aware of it. Now you are poisoning us and we should just turn our heads. I don't think so. And the food poisoning in the dog food is true. My daughters little King Cavalier Spaniel Duke was killed by it. Who knows what will be next. I hope we stop shipping from China altogether till you can admit the truth and stop your cruel and poisonous ways. Trivial You say. I don't think so. You make the Chinese look bad posting this and trying to make China look so innocent.

don't you know that nowadays many news have become something like the Eight Diagrams. how can you believe that? and it doesn't hurt you,how could you talk about here? have you ever thought about others' feeling? nobody wants to hear anything ill or bad about his country. you are not Chinese ,you will never feel that. please respect Chinese. and hope you not to post things like this anymore. because it is government's business ,not yours. thank you for cooperation,ok?

I hadn't heard about all those things, just the pet food. But if those stories are true, then I say they should be thinking about banning products from China. I don't think you are over reacting at all. I think I am going to be paying more attention to where my food and other things come from.

I'm always amazed at how our government handles various situations. We jumped on the "no beef" from Canada thing immediately. This is a country we've always had free trade and a wonderful relationship (ok, except for that one little war at Fort Erie LOL). We know these 3rd world countries do not have the strict laws that we try to enforce on our consumer goods, yet we allow them to ship in fruits and vegetables knowing they can and do use chemicals we have outlawed for our farmers here in the states. We know they have little to no governing about most any product they produce, another obvious reason for the "cheap cost" of the product because there's no cost to making sure there aren't bad things in it or having to produce it in a safe environment. America needs to wake up. We buy foreign cars, import foreign foods, depend on foreign oil and then wonder why none of us have decent paying jobs?! We are quick to turn our backs on a country that we've always had open borders with yet we turn our heads to the ones that have fought us for centuries and even attacked us in wars. Have we Americans simply lost our minds and can't see past our cheap wallets that are only getting thinner and thinner anyways? UGH! Can you tell you hit a sore spot with me! LOL Sorry for the rant! Um... could you tell I agree with you? LOL

Seems to me we should be growing and manufacturing more of our own stuff. We are so vulnerable with buying so much and not making any of our own stuff. Their standards are not ours and we would be better served with homegrown and homemade items in our lives. Just my thoughts on this.

I hear you on that. There are so many things that are unhealthy and I know that ground meats are the worse. We have started making our own sausage, tastes better is cheaper and healthier. We got a meat grinder and can now grind out own beef, turkey and chicken. Just one more safety item in our arsenal.

Wow-- I guess I didn't pay all that much attention to all the banned food products for us and our pets- I agree- if the food that is causing problems is ALL coming from China- then we need to do something to stop this- Should there be stricter testing on the products coming in? Is banning the way? I imagine we get alot of stuff from China- do we want to take the risk of getting sick? I remember the Mad cow-

you are right about thinking that what has been happening to the world population, because of ingesting food ffrom china, can justify the ban. beef from england was banned from entry throughout various countries in the world because of mad cow disease. same goes for chicken and poultry due to bird flu. in all respects, the experiences we have been going through, with the way chinese food products has been threatening life and health of people and animals, can justify this same ban on their food products.

Yes and for some reason the FDA seems to be dragging it's feet on taking action. I am looking more and more at packaging. If it says China on it, I put it down. I know that this is not a 100% guarantee of safety but it is something that I can do.
