I entered a photo contest at picture.com about a month ago or so. I actually forgot all about it. Today I went to the mailbox and pulled out an envelope with a window in it. In the window was a picture of the picture I sent to picture.com. It says that my picture pass the judging to go to the next level in the contest. Now of course they are probably connected to poetry.com because they seem to do the same process. They tell you even though you might not win the contest; (at least that is what I think I understood)your photo will be used in there next covertable special edition book which I can buy for 60 dollars. But that I dont' have to for my picture to stay in the contest. I was wondering does anyone have experience with this company. Do you think there is a real contest? I sent a picture to a photo site a few months back I dont' know if it is this site or not but I have not received anything like this before. Oh I forgot to say that I am suppose to send this card with the picture on it back to them confirming it is my original work for the picture to stay in the contest. Does anyone know if this site is legit?

You guessed it. It is just like poetry.com. I sent a picture to them about five years ago. I received a mailing telling me to confirm that it was my original work. I never sent it back and to this day, it is still senting on the website, just like my poems are sitting on poetry.com.
I found out on the BetterBusinessBureau.com that poetry.com does not even make up those books until you put in an order from them. They say that you can get a discount price before they arrive in the bookstores. They will never arrive at the bookstores, because they do not exist.

Wow that is good to know. I always wondered about that. I was in a different writer's group a few years back and I submitted a poem to poetry.com! I did receive a email telling me I was accepted for the book and all that. I can't remember if I got something in the mail. But a friend had also submitted her poem and she was also accepted. I new right there that this was not good. One reason was because I felt sure her poem wasn't that good. I was proud of my poem but I didn't think it was good enough for a book either. Once my friend heard I was accepted I am sure her bubble burst too because she probably felt the same way about my poem as I did hers. LOL Now that you mention poetry.com I wonder about the conventions they say that they have. Do you think they actually do have convention and have contest for the poetry.com. Interesting! Gee I sure wish the picture site was real. I love my picture and it would be great if it were good enough to win a contest. But I have to say when it came and I started to read it my joy disburst as the similarities to the poetry site were to similar. But still a little hope so that is why I wrote here on Mylot to ask what others thought. thank you

I have never heard of it. Everyone else had a lot of good advise. I would say just check it out a lot. I am sure there are a lot of legit contests out there. Just be careful and do not hand out personal info or credit card info. Take care

Nowadays, sites like this should be relegated to the trash and scams heap... it's among the dinosaurs of scams, and in the face of all the true ways to make money with your art, they ought to be ashamed...
Did you know that you can publish and sell your work for free?

Also, there are thousands of sites that are BUYING stock photography these days and PAYING royalties, too! :)
Keep your money, become Resourceful, and do something brilliant for yourself! These con-artists don't need your money! :)

I received the same piece of mail with the picture I entered into the contest visible in the window as well. I only entered the contest to get points at another site, so I didn't take it seriously. I figured they sent a lot of them out, but it doesn't hurt to not pay for anything and send the OK for the picture in.

You may want to read this warning. http://www.todays-woman.net/poetry-scams-84.html I just started a discussion regarding this company that operates under several names. They have now gained a national reputation for preying upon unsuspecting photographers like yourself.

I have no experience with picture.com but I do with poetry.com and I think everyone has been suckered into that one. I would bet money that this is just another scam to get some money for you and it's sad because these people get our hopes up don't they?
