are you a bilingual? aside from your national/official language what are language do you speak? and where did you learn it? was it from friends or in school? what other languages would you like to learn? as for me, i can only speak filipino and english. filipino since its our official language. and most filipinos learn english in school. i also speak another regional dialect (native language), that is ilocano.. usually use english at the office, filipino when with friends and ilocano at home.. too bad though coz spanish ceased to be an official language in 1973. it would had been fun speaking spanish.. but i want to learn french.. ;)

may i ask the reason why you are trying to learn malay? is it just for fun or you need it in your job or something? where do you plan to study these languages? or you just buy books for self-study? thanks

I speak English, Malay and Indonesian. I use English at work, Malay with my parents and Indonesian with my in laws. I would love to learn Mandarin, Japanese and French but i don't think that my brain is capable of learning a new language anymore. LOL!

wow 3 languages each for different purposes.. well i think itll be easy for me to learn malay or indonesian (is it bahasa or something?) since these languages belong to the same family (malayo-polynesian language).. another reason for not really learning french (or mandarin in your case) but theres no chance at all that i would be able to use it, except if i chat online or work as a french-speaking agent.. but it would be really fun learning new languages..

Yes, that is true. Malay and Indonesia are almost the same as the Filipinos language. We even share some words like Mata, Anak, and so on... Have a nice day there!

I speak English and Tagalog. I tried learning Japanese but it's been years and I still haven't "learned" it yet, although I can shout obscure Japanese phrases like "Kawaii deshou?!~" I also used to be able to speak Indonesian but I kind of forgot most of it ever since I moved out of there. So yeah, English and Tagalog. :(

Well I had to learn it before because I used to live in Indonesia. But once I moved back to the Philippines I didn't really have any use for it, and never used it...and sort of forgot most of it. Japanese as well, I only studied it to fulfill a modern language requirement in high school. Although my mom says I should pursue this too because it might be useful one day. But my hands are kind of full at the moment so I'll just get back at this some other day.

indonesian language is useless here in the country since no one really speaks the language.. but at least you had the chance to learn it.. guess japanese will be quite useful in the future.. most companies look for japanese speaking employees, and since theres not that much who can do, theyll pay you big! but good luck in the future!

I know English and Tagalog, plus a bit of Japanese and Ilonggo. I know a few lines of other languages though but I don't think they count as "speaking" them ehehe.. My mom is half-Ilocano, half-Kapangpangan but I never got around learning those languages. Too bad hehehe..

Nahhh Japanese isn't too hard..I guess as long as you're interested. I learned Spanish before, for a whole year, but I wasn't into it so I kinda forgot everything already ;_;

I speak Spanish, which is my mother tongue, English, French, and Italian. I can also read quite decently and understand some catalan, because my mother was born in cataluyna, spain. I'm trying to start learning some German on my own, but i don't know if i'll succeed! I just love languages, and the experience of communicating with a lot of people from different cultures!

wow.. how i wish i can speak most of your languages.. but at least you wont have a problem speaking tagalog since most words are derived from spanish.. may i ask the difference between spanish and catalan? arent they the same? so after german whats next on your list? thanks

After German... who knows, maybe japanese. I find their culture very very interesting!!! Catalan is a language older than spanish, it is spoken in the north of spain, called Catalunya (where Barcelona is), and -if my mother saw this she would get really angry, he he- it is kind of a mixture between french, italian, and spanish. =)

I speak English fluently. It's my native language - but I like old English too. I can speak very properly if I need too. I'm very interested in langauges and new words. I've taken German, French, and Spanish in school and college. I don't speak any of them fluently but I can have a conversation.... and I can understand sometimes what other people are saying. I'm going to be taking Italian - and definately learning to speak that fluently as I'm going to go to school in Florence for a couple summer semesters. I've also tried out Russian and Thai.

Well, I understand Shakespeare - but I just meant proper English - like before all the slang and shortening of words. Like Hemingway or Melville.
