and your cellfone?
i recently had my cellfone stolen about 2 weeks ago. until now i haven't had the time to find/buy a replacement. the cellfone was about 6 months old. it was stolen during a lunch break, when i normally would leave it on my office desk for 15 minutes. i've been doing that for the past 2 1/2 years and that is the only time i felt unsafe at my own "space". when it happened, i didn't even have the time to wallow on my misery coz i was about to attend a workshop/meeting in another city. i feel bad about the phone but more so on the important messages and phonebook it contains.
i haven't experienced accidentally losing any of my previous phones like being left somewhere while riding the bus or taxi etc. but i did experience being attacked by 5 men about 6 years ago while waiting for a cab. it was dec 22nd and almost 11 pm, right after spending some time with my bestfriend and did a little shopping at the mall. with a knife on one hand, one of the guys managed to grab my phone from me, while the rest are holding my shoulders on each side. i was able to angrily utter "how dare you!" as it was happening.
between having your phone stolen or grabbed by force, i would say that the latter is worse for me. i had nightmares for 3 months after the incident coz the scene kept on playing back and the face of the guy with the knife stayed vivid in my memory. i was just thankful that when i hit him with my shopping bag on his retreating back, his knife missed my body by mere inches.
how about you? have you ever experienced losing your cellfone, stolen or grabbed by force? which is worse/worst for you?

OMG, that's scary!! be careful myles. i had lost my cell once whatsoever and the it was due to more my fault. quite similar to your first one actually. i had left it on my desk and before relaising it's gone. its a private place still we couldn't figure out how it all happened. i am more careful now.

unfortunately, it was on the only day that everybody went to lunch at the same time and forgot to lock the door.
our office is located on the 7th floor of the building. my cubicle is located on an inner portion and one has to go thru the lobby/receiving area, and admin to get to my area.
and i didn't just leave it lying around on my desk. it was beside my laptop and not visible to any passersby unless you would be facing my laptop. the best guess we had was a messenger because an officemate found one just leaving when there was nobody around.
well it was just my misfortune. :)

hopefully not. i wouldn't want to think of it happening again on another person and even on me. :)

wow that was really dreadful!!! personally i haven't face both of those situations yet..but i don't walk on foot much either;) there's no doubt it's more horrible being grabbed by someone/some people than losing ur cellphone.and in my opinion it's really fortunate that u came out of it without being harmed(or much harmed?).it's really traumatic!!!

it was really dreadful and traumatic. bad enough that i've never gone near that place again. my arms were bruised but it was nothing compared to stolen sense of security. :)

I had my cell phone stolen once. They knocked the window out of the car and stole a back pack that it was in. I wonder, why even bother locking the door if they are just going to break the window.
Anyways, I called the cell phone company and it turned out I had insurance on the phone. They sent me a new one right away, no extra cost. Did you call the company and report it had been stolen so that you don't have to pay the bill?
Anyways, I haven't ever been mugged, but I can imagine that was a horrible experience.

my officemate called the cell phone company within the hour and had the subscription temporarily cut. i had to leave for a workshop meeting at the time and was unable to attend to it.
unfortunately, the subscription plan doesn't have an insurance on the phone unit.
i'm a cry baby but in this recent incident i was too busy to even shed a tear. it was done. i couldn't get it back.
yes, my experience 6 years ago was really so bad. any form of intentional violence for me is horrible.

That wasn't very wise of you. Even if its your workspace it is still an open area. Anyone can walk by and take it. It may be someone visiting the office who happens to see the phone lying around. Maybe its someone who's watched you do that for quite some time so he knows when to steal it so he don't get caught.

i lost my first cellphone when I was in 3rd yr. high school. When I got home, I was looking for it in my bag..and I just couldn't find it. I don't know what happened...if it was stolen, or I just dropped it. I still don't know the reason behind that...hmmm....
