What on earth are linkbacks?

I have been hearing the term backlinks or linkbacks and I have no idea what they are , except that they are important when one needs to drive traffic to a blog or site. I hope someone can advise me on what they are lol, and how to get me SOME?!

Backlinks are really important to driving traffic to a blog site primarily because the more inbound links you have to your blog the easier (and better) your blog will be indexed. The search engine bots will feel that you're providing valuable content in your blog that lots of other webspaces can use, hence the inbound links.
You can do this by submitting your blog to various directories, and also by finding other like minded blogs and switching links. It really is an essential part to building traffic. Best of luck to you!

I have checked out your tips and later I am going to see if I can implement them in my blog. Sadly, I am not from Canada or U.S.A. I am going to checkout whether my old blog was indexed, I have never thought to search for it before, just shows how little I know.I am hoping to submit my blog to loads of directories, once again, I am thankful for the common sense tips and advice you gave me. I was on the net a lot and then for 2 years I was away from the online world, so anything I learnt back then, I just forgot.
