I live in Minnesota USA. Where in April we have the MInnesota Twins professional baseball team starting their season. Now during April here in Minnesota it can be 75 degrees one day then a blizzard and near zero another day. When I first moved to Minnesota in 1975 I attended many baseball and football games at the Met Stadium. Then they built a "DOME". I have been to just a few baseball games and a few football games. Now baseball isn't baseball played under a roof. I went to a game once and sat through 11 innings of great ball albiet under a dome. Now the shocker was as I exited the building there was a torrentail downpour. Sitting in a dome you have no feel for the outside world. Kind of like a casino. You have no idea of the weather, or maybe even if it's light or dark outside. You lose all sense for the outer world. Anyhow they have finally broken ground for a new open stadium here in Minnesota for the Twins Baseball Team. Not even a retractable roof. But one thing thats added is heated seats and stadium floor/grass for those cold snowy April days. I HATE DOMES!! Do you also hate domes? Have you ever been to a normal outdoor sporting event inside of a domed structure?

no.. but I'm happy for you, you are getting your open stadium, and hope you get to take advantage of it and enjoy it lots! As a rule I don't much care for those fully closed off places.. unnatural..

Some domes even add trees trying to get that "outdoorsy" feel.
Not right in my eyes. Give me the open air with all the elements
of Mother Nature.

Come to think of it, the only sporting event I've been to, have been in a dome. I watched the Twins play in the dome a few times, and I went to the University of Northern Iowa. Which is played in a dome.
The pros of the domes... You don't have to sit in that torrential downpour, freezing temperature, or sweltering heat. It's also easier to see what is going on, because there is no glare on the screens, birds or bugs!
The cons... Like you said, you have no clue what is going on outside. The sound is completely AWFUL! I can never understand a single word said over the loudspeakers.

Aww, so Im not weird after all. I love baseball. I have this friend who also loves it but he likes the domes & I hate them. To me, baseball always has & always will be an out door game. I just dont enjoy it as much if its played inside a dome. My friend insist that I am nuts because he thinks the domes are great. He says they protect you from the weather & games can be played no matter how bad its raining. Glad to hear Im not the only one who dont like domes.

Here in Texas we had a dome, called the Astrodome and many a football game was held in there until they closed it about 5 years ago and built other stadiums. The baseball stadium we have now has a retractable roof and is open most times, but the past few games (we have season tickets) they have closed the roof cause we have gotten so much rain here as of lately. I like the roof open, makes you feel more like you are outside watching the games as opposed to being closed up in a dome.

I look at stadiums that have a retractable roof and say it looks like an airplane hangar to me. I hate those also. OPEN AIR!! Hee hee!

I don't mind domes, but I am not a big baseball fan. I think football should be played in the outside. They have taken away the extra elements, such as the weather, as being a factor in football games. To me, baseball players have it too easy compared to other sports. Since baseball is mostly a summer sport, I agree that it should be played outdoors. Someday, I will visit Minnesota. It is on my list of places to go. But gas prices might make me put off that next out-of-state trek for a while.
