No Scientific Fact That Second Hand Smoke Kills

I have a friend who smokes and when he went to the doctor recently he asked his doctor about second hand smoke. His wife doesn't smoke. He told me today that the doctor told him despite all the ads that are being run there is really no scientific evidence to back that up. So I went on the web to look and see what I could find and there are articles on there that do say this . But there are many more that say they do. I know it stands to reason that being around smoke is not real healthy but is it really as unhealthy as they are trying to make out. Your thoughts please.

I believe there is scientific facts that secondhand smoke can kill. I am also an x-smoker and I have never had a doctor tell me that secondhand smoke doesn't kill. I have always heard that it CAN kill. So this is the first for me. Either way, it's not healthy to smoke and it's not healthy to breath in secondhand smoke.

I agree , plus it makes everything stink terrible. Even an eye doctor can tell if someone is a smoker. Nicodine sticks to everything, Thank you for your comment.

So what if it's not healthy to smoke? Are you going to take my right to choose away from me? It's not healthy to walk in a downtown area with deisel fumes wafting through the air. It's not healthy to eat charred meat, it's not healthy to take too many vitamins, it's not healthy to sit in the sun for 8 straight hours. I could go on, but who has the right to tell me anything? And ONA...so what if it stinks (I would choose the word 'smells')? I've smelled some body washes, perfumes, hairsprays that make me want to wretch. Not to mention BODY ODOR...so please..

No, smoke all you want. It's your health, but have respect for others when smoking, is all the non-smokers ask. Either way it doesn't really matter because they are banning smoking almost everywhere these days. In some places you can't even smoke in your car. So I guess we are pretty much winning this battle with the whole second hand smoking. So, please....

I often have wondered myself just how much stock there really is in the whole second hand smoke thing..I mean yes I realize and fully believe that second hand smoke isnt good for a person but in all honesty, for it to be as damaging as they make it out to be you'd have to (IMO) be around it thick and heavy in small quarters almost continuously which of course I dont know about anyone else but tht seems just so out there ya know...

I am wondering how much truth there is to it. I think there would be a lot more deaths from it. But it does stink. I think when people are out in the air smoking it cant hurt anyone as bad as they make it out to.

I think that it is bad for people with asthma and lung problems but I dont think it is as bad as they are making it sound. I dont remember when all this started but I can remember when people smoked while they were shopping.

Ok so the person has asthmas or lung issues, that smoker still has the right to smoke. Everyone should butt out of everyone's lives...no matter the issue. I totally agree with the responder below. You answered the wrong post... SO SMOKER DOWN IN THE NEXT BOX....I AGREE WITH YOU!!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME?

Sure there is, everyone knows that smoke is bad for you so of course it's bad for you to sit next to s amoker all day as well. I'm sure there're documented facts on this, but even if there aren't then it's just common sense that second hand smoks is dangerous for you as well.

I dont know if there is documented facts. I dont think it is as bad as they are saying. I think if you were in a room full of smoke or a small room sitting next to a smoker with it blowing towards you and stinking you up it would be bad. Or if you had lung problems it probably would be. I just wonder about the whole mortality rate. Plus I know smoking itself is bad for the smoker.

The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION even stated that there is no proof of second hand smoke and health issues. And they are do gooders. I believe the whole idea behind second hand smoke and health problems is from the idiots who are trying to take our rights away from us in the United States. They've done this with transfat and other things.

I want to see that world health org document. I find it very interesting that you found this info. I looked for it. I guess I didnt delve into it enough. I think that people truly cant stand the smell of it just as you say that perfumes make you sick. So it is possible that cig smoke can make people sick. Weather it kills them is the question.

Im tryin to remember the days when everyone smoked and no one complained about it at all. I dont believe second hand smoke causes health problems for anyone, and have you noticed how many people who all of a sudden are allergic to smoke that never had the problem untill all the huff about smoking statred?I am a smoker and I do respect the rights of others and try to smoke away from them but last I checked this was still a free country and I also have rights.

The surgeon general recently found that secondhand smoke does have adverse health effects on nonsmokers, sooo... And the American Cancer Society talks about it too. Go to their Web site acs.org I think. Just because smokers don't see people keeling over all around them, that doesn't mean that over time it's not having an effect. Just like smokers don't REALLY see effects until they're older and get emphysema and lung cancer. I mean really people, it's just common sense... It doesn't have immediate effects but it can't HELP now can it? I say this as a person whose mom smoked while pregnant, and who was raised in a smoking household and whose whole family smokes. So yeah I'm not really looking forward to these long term effects. :P
